Ingredients

  • 2 large eggs
  • 30g furikake (Japanese rice seasoning – choose your favorite flavor)
  • 2 bowls of cooked rice (approx. 400g), warm
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp toasted sesame seeds
  • 2 slices of processed cheese, cut into small squares
  • Ketchup, to taste
  • A pinch of salt
  • 1 tbsp cooking oil

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

In a bowl, combine the warm cooked rice with sesame oil and toasted sesame seeds. Add the furikake seasoning and gently mix everything together with your hands until well combined. Ensure the seasoning is evenly distributed throughout the rice for maximum flavor.

Step 1

Step 2

Next, prepare the cheese filling. Stack the two slices of processed cheese and cut them into small, bite-sized squares. Aim for pieces that will fit comfortably inside the rice balls.

Step 2

Step 3

Take a portion of the seasoned rice and form it into a round ball. Create a small indentation in the center of the rice ball, place a piece of the cut cheese inside, and then cover it completely with more rice, re-shaping it into a smooth, compact ball. Make sure the cheese is fully enclosed so it doesn’t leak out during cooking.

Step 3

Step 4

In a separate bowl, crack the 2 eggs and add a pinch of salt. Whisk the eggs until the yolks and whites are well combined, creating a smooth egg wash.

Step 4

Step 5

Dip each cheese-filled rice ball into the whisked egg wash, ensuring it’s fully coated on all sides. Allow any excess egg wash to drip off.

Step 5

Step 6

Heat the cooking oil in a non-stick skillet over medium-low heat. Carefully place the egg-coated rice balls into the hot skillet. Gently roll the rice balls around using chopsticks or a spatula, cooking them until they are golden brown and crispy on all sides. Keep the heat moderate to prevent burning and ensure the inside heats through.

Step 6

Step 7

Once golden and crispy, transfer the cheese rice balls to a serving plate. Serve immediately with ketchup on the side for dipping. Enjoy the delightful surprise of melted cheese with every bite!
