Main Ingredients
- 4-5 slices of bacon
- 1 bowl of warm cooked rice (approx. 200g)
Salty-Sweet Sauce
- 1 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp sugar
- 1 Tbsp corn syrup (or oligodextrin syrup)
- 1/2 Tbsp oyster sauce
- A pinch of black pepper
- 1 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp sugar
- 1 Tbsp corn syrup (or oligodextrin syrup)
- 1/2 Tbsp oyster sauce
- A pinch of black pepper
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the rice. For extra flavor, mix the warm rice with a little sesame oil and toasted sesame seeds. Shape the rice into elongated, oval rice balls. Don’t worry if they aren’t packed too tightly.
Step 2
Carefully wrap each rice ball with a slice of bacon, ensuring the ends of the bacon overlap slightly to prevent the rice from falling out. This overlapping will also help maintain a neat shape as it cooks.
Step 3
Heat a non-stick pan over medium-low heat without adding oil. Place the bacon-wrapped rice balls in the pan and cook them until they are golden brown and lightly crispy on all sides. Bacon will render its own fat, so no extra oil is needed. The key is to cook slowly to achieve a nice crisp.
Step 4
Once the bacon is nicely browned, pour the prepared sauce mixture (soy sauce, sugar, corn syrup, oyster sauce, and pepper) into the pan. Reduce the heat to low. Gently roll the rice balls in the sauce, coating them evenly. Continue to simmer and glaze until the sauce thickens slightly and coats the rice balls with a glossy sheen. Your delicious Bacon-Wrapped Soy Sauce Rice Balls are now ready!
