Steak Ingredients- 1/2 block Tofu (approx. 150g)
- 4 strips Bacon
- 1 Tbsp Pan-frying Flour (approx. 15g)
- 2 Tbsp Cooking Oil (approx. 30ml)
- 3 stalks Chives
- 1 Tbsp Carrots (julienned)
- 1 Tbsp Onion (julienned)
Sauce- 2 Tbsp Mayonnaise (approx. 30ml)
- 2 tsp Lemon Syrup (approx. 10ml)
- 2 Tbsp Mayonnaise (approx. 30ml)
- 2 tsp Lemon Syrup (approx. 10ml)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, thoroughly pat the tofu dry with paper towels or a clean kitchen cloth. Removing excess moisture is crucial for achieving a crispy exterior and preventing the tofu from breaking apart during cooking.
Step 2
Heat 2 tablespoons of cooking oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Place the prepared tofu in the pan and fry until golden brown and nicely seared on both sides. This step enhances the texture and flavor of the tofu steak.
Step 3
Have your pan-fried tofu steaks and 4 strips of bacon ready. You can adjust the bacon length to fit the size of your tofu steaks.
Step 4
Now it’s time to wrap the tofu. Take one piece of the cooked tofu and carefully wrap two strips of bacon around it, either in a cross shape or as you prefer, to fully encase the tofu.
Step 5
Return the bacon-wrapped tofu to the frying pan. Cook over medium-low heat until the bacon is golden brown and crispy on both sides. The bacon’s savory flavor will infuse into the tofu, making it even more delicious.
Step 6
Tip: When cooking bacon in a pan, the bacon itself releases enough fat, so you usually don’t need to add extra cooking oil. Keep an eye on the heat to ensure the bacon and tofu cook evenly in the rendered bacon fat.
Step 7
In a separate pan, or after wiping the first pan clean, add the chopped chives and sauté briefly until fragrant. Their fresh, oniony aroma complements the steak beautifully.
Step 8
Next, add the julienned carrots and onions. Sauté for just a minute or two until they are slightly softened but still retain a bit of crunch. These vegetables add a touch of sweetness and a pleasant texture to the dish.
Step 9
Important Tip: You don’t need to add salt when pan-frying the tofu. The saltiness from the bacon provides sufficient seasoning, allowing the natural savory flavor of the tofu to shine through.
Step 10
Finally, let’s make the sauce. In a small bowl, combine 2 tablespoons of mayonnaise with 2 teaspoons of lemon syrup. Whisk well until smooth. The bright citrusy notes from the lemon syrup cut through the richness of the mayonnaise, creating a refreshing dressing.
