Main Ingredients for Cuttlefish Butter Grill- 300g cleaned cuttlefish
- 1/3 Tbsp minced garlic
- 2 slices unsalted butter (approx. 20g)
Spicy Cheongyang Mayo Sauce Ingredients- 3 Tbsp mayonnaise
- 1 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1 Cheongyang chili pepper (or green chili pepper)
- 3 Tbsp mayonnaise
- 1 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1 Cheongyang chili pepper (or green chili pepper)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
I prepared fresh, seasonal cuttlefish using same-day delivery service. It was on sale, so I got it at a great price! This pack contains 300g. If using frozen cuttlefish, take it out of the freezer and let it thaw naturally at room temperature before cooking. Be careful not to leave it out for too long.
Step 2
After thawing, rinse the cuttlefish thoroughly under running water 3-4 times. Cuttlefish can have a slightly stronger unique aroma compared to regular squid, so rinsing it well is recommended. Remove any inedible parts like the beak area for a cleaner taste.
Step 3
Cut the cuttlefish into bite-sized pieces for easy eating. To remove any potential gamey smell and enhance the flavor, toss the cuttlefish with 1/3 Tbsp of minced garlic. Let it marinate for a bit for a richer taste.
Step 4
It’s best to use unsalted butter for this recipe to control the flavor. However, any butter you have at home will work fine. Cut the butter into small cubes so it’s easy to place on top of the cuttlefish.
Step 5
Arrange the cuttlefish, seasoned with minced garlic, in the air fryer basket in an appealing manner. Evenly distribute the small cubes of butter on top. As the butter melts, it will add moisture and a delicious nutty flavor.
Step 6
Air fryer models vary, so adjust the cooking time and check the cuttlefish as it cooks. I baked mine at 180°C (350°F) for 10 minutes, then flipped the cuttlefish and added another 5 minutes, for a total of 15 minutes. It’s done when it’s golden brown.
Step 7
Now, let’s make the Cheongyang Mayo sauce that pairs perfectly with the cuttlefish. In a bowl, generously add about 3 Tbsp of mayonnaise. Stir in 1 Tbsp of soy sauce. You can adjust the soy sauce amount to your preference. For a spicy kick, finely chop 1 Cheongyang chili pepper and add it. If Cheongyang peppers are too spicy for you, green chili peppers can be used for a nice crunch.
Step 8
Your crispy cuttlefish butter grill and spicy-sweet Cheongyang mayo sauce are ready! This is the ultimate homemade snack for a night in. Enjoy this special dish tonight!
