Crispy and Flavorful Stir-Fried Bean Sprouts
Easy and Delicious Stir-Fried Bean Sprouts Recipe
Stir-fried bean sprouts are a common and delightful dish often found in restaurants. Here’s a simple and quick recipe to prepare this tasty side dish. Enjoy a delicious meal with minimal effort.
Main Ingredients- 3 handfuls of bean sprouts (approx. 300g)
- 1/2 large green onion (scallion)
- 1 Tbsp minced garlic (from approx. 5 cloves)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, finely chop the green onion. This will add a wonderful fragrant aroma to the dish.
Step 2
Prepare the bean sprouts by removing any loose bean husks from the heads and trimming any wilted roots. This step ensures a cleaner texture in your stir-fry.
Step 3
Rinse the prepared bean sprouts gently under running water and drain them well. Be careful not to over-wash, as this can impart a grassy flavor.
Step 4
Place all the prepared bean sprouts into a wide pan or wok. Mince the 5 cloves of garlic using a garlic press or a knife, and add them to the pan. Freshly minced garlic offers the best flavor.
Step 5
Add the chopped green onion on top of the bean sprouts.
Step 6
Now it’s time for the seasonings. Add 2 generous tablespoons of gochugaru (Korean chili flakes) using a regular spoon. Feel free to adjust the amount based on your spice preference.
Step 7
For sweetness, add 0.7 tablespoons of sugar, which is about 2/3 of a tablespoon. A tip is to not make it overly sweet.
Step 8
Start by adding 4 tablespoons of soy sauce. It’s best to taste and add more later if needed. I found 6 tablespoons to be the perfect amount, so add another 2 tablespoons if you find it too bland.
Step 9
Drizzle about two swirls of cooking oil around the edges of the pan. Then, stir-fry the bean sprouts over low heat. Initially, cooking on low heat helps the seasonings evenly coat the bean sprouts before they become too soft.
Step 10
Once the bean sprouts start to wilt and you see some liquid forming at the bottom of the pan, increase the heat to medium-high or high and stir-fry quickly. This rapid cooking helps maintain the crispiness of the bean sprouts. If it tastes too bland, you can add a tiny pinch of salt (like ‘mat-soyum’ – seasoned salt).
Step 11
When the bean sprouts are still crisp and the seasonings are well combined, turn off the heat. Finish by drizzling in 1 tablespoon of sesame oil and sprinkling some toasted sesame seeds for a nutty aroma. Your delicious stir-fried bean sprouts are now complete!
Step 12
Your hearty and flavorful stir-fried bean sprouts are ready as an excellent side dish. They’re perfect as a staple for meals or even as a snack.
Step 13
Serve hot and enjoy with your meal!
