Create a simple, sweet, savory, and slightly spicy tteokppang snack using leftover tteokguk tteok that everyone from kids to adults will love. Enjoy its perfect crispy exterior and chewy interior!
Main Ingredients
- 150g Tteokguk Tteok (rice cakes for soup, ensure excess water is removed)
- 1 Tbsp Gochujang (Korean chili paste)
- 1 Tbsp Sugar (adjust to taste)
- 1 Tbsp Minced Garlic
- 3 Tbsp Ketchup (adds a sweet and tangy flavor)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the main ingredient for tteokppang: tteokguk tteok. If the rice cakes are stuck together, rinse them lightly in cold water to separate them, or pat them thoroughly dry with a kitchen towel to prevent sticking. This step is crucial for achieving crispy tteokppang.
Step 2
Spread the prepared tteokguk tteok in a single layer in your air fryer basket. Making sure the rice cakes aren’t overlapping is key to ensuring they cook evenly and become crispy. Preheat your air fryer to 180°C (350°F) and cook the tteokguk tteok for about 10 minutes. Shaking the basket once in the middle will help them cook more evenly. They are done when they turn golden brown and puff up slightly.
Step 3
While the rice cakes are cooking, let’s make the delicious sauce! In a small bowl, combine 1 Tbsp gochujang, 1 Tbsp sugar, 1 Tbsp minced garlic, and 3 Tbsp ketchup. Mix well until smooth and lump-free. You can adjust the sugar to your preference; the ketchup adds a pleasant sweet and tangy flavor that children will enjoy.
Step 4
Carefully remove the golden-brown tteokguk tteok from the air fryer and place them into the bowl with the prepared sauce. Tossing them while they are still warm will help the sauce adhere better and infuse more flavor. Be cautious as the rice cakes are hot. Gently toss them until evenly coated with the sauce, and your delicious tteokppang snack is ready!
