  • 500g cleaned shrimp
  • Pinch of black pepper
  • Pinch of salt

First, rinse the shrimp thoroughly under running water. After rinsing, sprinkle the shrimp with pepper and salt to season them. Let them sit for about 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

Now, let’s prepare the coating for the shrimp. In a wide dish, place the flour (or tempura flour). In another bowl, crack 4 eggs and whisk them well. Finally, put a generous amount of panko breadcrumbs on another plate. You can adjust the quantities of each ingredient based on the amount of shrimp you are using.

Coat the seasoned shrimp evenly with flour. A little bit of moisture from the shrimp will help the flour stick better. Ensure a thorough coating to prevent the batter from falling off later.

Dip the floured shrimp into the whisked egg mixture, making sure the shrimp are fully submerged. Ensure the egg wash coats the entire shrimp. The egg wash will help the panko breadcrumbs adhere better.

After dipping in the egg wash, place the shrimp into the panko breadcrumbs. Press gently on both sides to ensure the shrimp are thoroughly coated with breadcrumbs. A generous coating of panko will result in a crispier texture.

They are now ready to go into the air fryer! Line the air fryer basket with parchment paper and arrange the coated shrimp in a single layer, making sure they don’t overlap. Leaving space between them will ensure even cooking.

Preheat your air fryer to 160°C (320°F). Once preheated, place the shrimp inside and cook for approximately 20 minutes. Flipping them halfway through will help them brown evenly. (Cooking time may vary depending on the size of the shrimp and your air fryer model.)
