- 1 Tbsp minced garlic
- 7 dried red chilies (peperoncino, seeds removed and finely chopped or left whole)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, wash and finely chop the green onion. Chopping it not too thinly will provide a nice texture when stir-fried in the sauce.
Step 2
It’s time to prepare the Kkanpung sauce. In a small bowl, combine soy sauce, water, oyster sauce, vinegar, corn syrup, sugar, and a pinch of black pepper. Stir well until the sugar is dissolved. Having the sauce pre-mixed will make the cooking process much smoother.
Step 3
Now, let’s fry the dumplings. Heat a generous amount of cooking oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, carefully add the frozen dumplings and fry until golden brown and crispy. Stir them occasionally to ensure they cook evenly and don’t stick together.
Step 4
Transfer the fried dumplings to a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil. This step is crucial for maintaining their crispiness after tossing them with the sauce.
Step 5
In a clean pan, add a little cooking oil and sauté the chopped green onion and minced garlic over low heat until fragrant. Be careful not to burn the garlic, and let the sweetness of the green onion release.
Step 6
Once the aroma of the green onion and garlic is prominent, add the pre-mixed Kkanpung sauce and the prepared dried red chilies to the pan. Bring the sauce to a simmer over medium heat until it thickens slightly. You can adjust the amount of chilies to your spice preference or omit them entirely.
Step 7
When the sauce is bubbling vigorously, add the drained fried dumplings. Reduce the heat to low and quickly toss the dumplings in the sauce to coat them evenly. This should be done rapidly, within about 30 seconds to 1 minute, to prevent the dumplings from becoming soggy. Serve immediately and enjoy your delicious Kkanpung Mandu!
