Main Ingredients

  • 1 large red onion
  • 5 small white onions

Pickling Brine

  • 2 cups water (400ml)
  • 1 cup vinegar (200ml)
  • 1 cup sugar (200g)
  • 1 Tbsp salt (15g)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, thoroughly wash and prepare the onions. Peel off the skins and ensure they are completely dry.

Step 1

Step 2

Slice the large red onion into thick rings, about 0.5cm thick. The beautiful color will make the pickles visually appealing.

Step 2

Step 3

Similarly, slice the small white onions into 0.5cm thick rings, maintaining their shape. Using a mix of red and white onions creates a more aesthetically pleasing pickle.

Step 3

Step 4

In a pot for making the pickling brine, pour in 2 cups (400ml) of water.

Step 4

Step 5

Add 1 cup (200ml) of vinegar. You can adjust the amount of vinegar to your preference for tanginess.

Step 5

Step 6

Add 1 cup (200g) of sugar. If you prefer less sweetness, feel free to reduce the sugar quantity.

Step 6

Step 7

Finally, add 1 tablespoon (15g) of salt. The salt balances the flavors.

Step 7

Step 8

Stir the water, vinegar, sugar, and salt in the pot thoroughly with a spatula until the sugar and salt are completely dissolved.

Step 8

Step 9

Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat. Once it reaches a rolling boil, continue to boil for about 1 minute. This step helps the brine penetrate the onions and prevents spoilage.

Step 9

Step 10

Neatly arrange the sliced red and white onions in a clean, airtight glass jar or container. Layering them is perfectly fine.

Step 10

Step 11

Pour the hot pickling brine over the onions, ensuring they are fully submerged. Pouring the brine while it’s hot helps maintain the onions’ crispiness.

Step 11

Step 12

After pouring the brine, let the container cool down at room temperature for about 30 minutes to 1 hour. This allows the onions to soften slightly before refrigeration.

Step 12

Step 13

Once cooled, seal the container tightly with a lid and store it in the refrigerator. For the best flavor, let the pickles mature for at least one day before serving. Enjoy them with your favorite meat dishes!
