Crispy and Delicious Fried Kelp (Dasima Twigak) Recipe
Easy Air Fryer Side Dish: How to Make Crispy Fried Kelp
Let’s make incredibly delicious and crispy fried kelp (Dasima Twigak)! It’s a perfect side dish that’s satisfyingly crunchy and a favorite for all ages.
Main Ingredients- 3 sheets of dried kelp (thick cut)
- 1/3 cup cooking oil
- 2 Tbsp sugar
- A pinch of toasted sesame seeds
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Shall we get ready to make delicious fried kelp? In the past, we had to deep-fry it with a batter, but thanks to the air fryer, you can now make it easily without worrying about oil splattering, filling your home with a wonderful aroma. The inviting smell will surely draw the kids in!
Step 2
First, cut the kelp into pieces suitable for frying. Pieces about two finger-widths long are a good size for air frying and eating.
Step 3
It’s important to remove the white saltiness from the surface of the kelp. Gently wipe the surface of the kelp with a damp kitchen towel. If you skip this step, your fried kelp might turn out too salty and not taste as good.
Step 4
Place the wiped kelp into a zip-top bag or a large bowl. Then, pour 1/3 cup of cooking oil over the kelp.
Step 5
Close the zip-top bag securely or cover the bowl, and gently shake or toss with your hands to coat the kelp evenly with cooking oil. Ensuring the oil is well distributed will help the kelp fry up nicely and become crispy.
Step 6
Line the air fryer basket with parchment paper. Arrange the oil-coated kelp in a single layer, making sure not to overlap the pieces. Overlapping can prevent them from becoming evenly crispy.
Step 7
Set the air fryer to 185°C (365°F) and cook for a total of 10 minutes. About halfway through, around the 7-minute mark, it’s helpful to pull out the basket and give the kelp a little toss to ensure even cooking. Continue cooking for the remaining 3 minutes. As the cooking nears completion, prepare another bag with 2 tablespoons of sugar to shake the fried kelp in for coating.
Step 8
Once the kelp is fried to a golden crisp in the air fryer, quickly transfer the hot kelp into the bag with the sugar. Shake well to coat the kelp evenly. Finally, sprinkle with a pinch of toasted sesame seeds. Congratulations, you’ve made delicious, crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside fried kelp! Let it cool slightly before storing in an airtight container to enjoy later.
