  • Category : Side dish
  • Ingredient Category : Vegetables
  • Occasion : Quick & Easy
  • Cooking : Seasoned mix
  • Difficulty : Anyone

Main Ingredients

  • 30g dehydrated onions
  • 1 Tbsp gochujang (Korean chili paste)
  • 1/2 Tbsp corn syrup or honey
  • 1/2 Tbsp minced garlic
  • 1 Tbsp sesame oil
  • A pinch of toasted sesame seeds

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Finely julienne the dehydrated onions to prepare them for cooking. If the onions are clumped together, gently separate them strand by strand with your hands. This helps the seasoning to distribute more evenly.

Step 1

Step 2

If using a food dehydrator, it’s recommended to dry the onions at 60°C (140°F) for about 10 hours. To ensure even drying, swap the top and bottom layers of onions after about 5 hours. Be careful not to dehydrate at too high a temperature, as this can cause the onions to turn yellow.

Step 2

Step 3

Prepare 30g of the dehydrated onions for this recipe. Dehydrated onions have very little moisture, making them easy to store, and they can be rehydrated by soaking in water before use.

Step 3

Step 4

Soak the dehydrated onions in cool or lukewarm water for about 2-3 minutes until they become tender. After soaking, drain them thoroughly in a colander and squeeze out as much excess water as possible. This prevents the seasoning from becoming diluted and ensures a better flavor.

Step 4

Step 5

Place the squeezed onions into a mixing bowl. If you wish to make a larger batch, increase all ingredient quantities proportionally to maintain the balance of flavors.

Step 5

Step 6

Add the seasoning ingredients to one side of the bowl. Specifically, add 1 tablespoon of gochujang, 1/2 tablespoon of corn syrup (or honey), 1/2 tablespoon of minced garlic, 1 tablespoon of sesame oil, and a pinch of toasted sesame seeds.

Step 6

Step 7

Mix the seasoning ingredients with the onions thoroughly. It’s important to mix well so that the seasoning coats the onions evenly. This will enhance the overall flavor of the onions.

Step 7

Step 8

Gently mix the seasoned onions. Ensure the seasoning is evenly distributed and clings to the onions without clumping.

Step 8

Step 9

And there you have it – your crispy and delicious dehydrated onion salad is ready!

Step 9

Step 10

This dehydrated onion salad makes an excellent side dish for any meal. Onions are packed with beneficial compounds that support cardiovascular health, so enjoy them often with this tasty and healthy recipe.
