Main Ingredients

  • Pre-made Stir-fried Anchovies (Banchan) – 1 cup
  • 1 Egg
  • Carrots – about 1/4, finely chopped
  • 1 Tbsp Sesame Oil
  • Sesame Seeds – a pinch

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Prepare your delicious stir-fried anchovy banchan, the star ingredient for these rice balls. (Refer to the ‘Stir-fried Anchovies @6943446’ recipe for how to make it!). If your pre-made anchovies are too salty, you can lightly rinse them under cold water and pat them dry before using.

Step 1

Step 2

Now, let’s make a thin omelet for the egg component. Crack one egg into a small bowl, whisk well, and then pour a thin layer onto a lightly oiled pan over low heat. Cook until golden brown on both sides. Making the omelet thin will make it easier to chop later.

Step 2

Step 3

Once the thin omelet has cooled slightly, finely mince it. Finely chopped egg will mix better with the rice and contribute to a softer texture in the rice balls.

Step 3

Step 4

Wash and peel the carrots, then finely dice them. The finer you chop the carrots, the better they will incorporate into the rice, and the more palatable they will be for children. Place the chopped carrots in a pan, ready for sautéing.

Step 4

Step 5

It’s time to sauté the carrots. Lightly grease the pan with cooking oil, add the chopped carrots and a pinch of salt. Stir-fry over low heat. This process will enhance the carrots’ natural sweetness and slightly soften their crisp texture. Cook until the carrots become translucent.

Step 5

Step 6

Now, let’s bring all the ingredients together. In a mixing bowl, combine the cooked rice (using warm rice helps it bind better), the pre-made stir-fried anchovies, the finely minced egg, and the sautéed carrots. Add 1 tablespoon of fragrant sesame oil and a pinch of sesame seeds for extra nutty flavor.

Step 6

Step 7

Using a spatula or your hands, gently mix all the ingredients thoroughly. It’s important to mix well so that the flavor of the anchovy banchan is evenly distributed throughout the rice and blends with the other components. Mix gently to avoid crushing the ingredients.

Step 7

Step 8

Finally, take portions of the mixed rice and shape them into small, round rice balls. You can make them bite-sized for kids or a bit larger for adults. Arrange them attractively on a serving plate to complete your delicious stir-fried anchovy rice balls!
