Crispy Anchovy Stir-fry for Babies
Perfect for Toddlers: Nutritious and Crispy Anchovy Stir-fry Recipe
Hearing that babies enjoy anchovy side dishes, I’ve made a crispy anchovy stir-fry for my little one. This recipe is mild and creates a delightful crunch, perfect for your child’s palate and growth.
Main Ingredients
- 1 handful of small dried anchovies (about 30g)
- 1/2 Tbsp sugar
- 1 Tbsp avocado oil (or other vegetable oil)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, soak the small dried anchovies in cold water for about 5 minutes to remove excess saltiness. This step helps reduce any bitterness or strong salty taste, making them much more palatable for babies. Squeeze out any excess water thoroughly before proceeding.
Step 2
Heat a dry frying pan over medium-low heat. Add the anchovies and stir-fry until they become crispy. Roasting them like this is crucial for eliminating any fishy odor and enhancing their texture. Stir constantly to prevent burning, for about 2-3 minutes.
Step 3
Push the roasted anchovies to one side of the pan. Add 1/2 Tbsp of avocado oil to the empty space. If you don’t have avocado oil, any mild vegetable oil like olive oil or grapeseed oil will work perfectly. Adding a little oil at this stage helps achieve extra crispiness.
Step 4
Immediately after adding the oil, sprinkle the 1/2 Tbsp of sugar into the pan. The sugar will dissolve in the oil, coating the anchovies, adding a lovely glaze and subtle sweetness. Keep the heat on low during this step.
Step 5
Now, mix the anchovies, sugar, and oil together, stirring continuously until everything is well combined and the anchovies are thoroughly crispy. The key is to keep stirring so they don’t clump together and each anchovy stays distinct. Once they feel satisfyingly crisp, turn off the heat. Sprinkle some toasted sesame seeds on top for a final touch. Let the stir-fry cool down a bit before serving; it will become even crispier as it cools.
