  • 4 Tbsp Perilla Oil (Deulgireum)
  • 2 Tbsp Cooking Oil
  • Pinch of Salt

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

We’re going to make crispy and delicious seasoned gim at home, easily and in large batches, just like the store-bought kind. It’s a fantastic snack for kids or a side dish for lunchboxes!

Step 1

Step 2

First, choose your preferred type of gim. Paragim (green laver) or Dolkim (stone laver) both work wonderfully, so pick what you like. The type of gim doesn’t significantly affect the taste, so feel free to use your favorite. Now for the crucial seasoning: mix perilla oil and cooking oil in a 2:1 ratio. For example, use 4 tablespoons of perilla oil and 2 tablespoons of cooking oil. This ratio is the secret to achieving that perfectly crispy texture!

Step 2

Step 3

Next, use a brush to evenly spread the oil mixture from step 1 onto the gim sheets. Be careful not to apply too much, as this can make the gim soggy; a thin, even layer is best. After applying the oil, lightly sprinkle salt to taste. If you’re making this for children, you might want to adjust the amount of salt accordingly.

Step 3

Step 4

Line the bottom of your air fryer basket with parchment paper. This prevents the gim from sticking and makes cleanup much easier. Carefully arrange the oiled gim sheets upright in the air fryer, ensuring they don’t overlap. This allows for even cooking. Set the air fryer to 180°C (356°F) and cook for 5 minutes. During this time, the gim will lightly cook and start to hold its shape.

Step 4

Step 5

After 5 minutes, carefully open the air fryer and gently flip the gim sheets over. Now, cook the other side at the same temperature, 180°C (356°F), for another 5 minutes. A total cooking time of about 10 minutes will result in evenly cooked and wonderfully crispy gim on both sides. The exact cooking time might vary slightly depending on the thickness of your gim and your air fryer model, so keep an eye on it during the last 1-2 minutes.

Step 5

Step 6

Once the timer is up, remove the perfectly roasted gim from the air fryer. You’ll have wonderfully crispy and delicious roasted gim! Let it cool slightly before breaking it into pieces and storing it in an airtight container to maintain its crispiness. Enjoy it with a warm bowl of rice – it’s truly delightful!
