- 1 Tbsp maesilcheong (plum extract, for umami and depth)
- 1.5 Tbsp soy sauce (adjust saltiness)
- 1 Tbsp sesame oil (for nutty aroma)
- 1/2 Tbsp minced garlic
- A pinch of sesame seeds (for texture and garnish)
- 2 Tbsp gochugaru (Korean chili flakes, adjust to taste)
- 1/2 Tbsp sugar (adjust sweetness)
- 1 Tbsp maesilcheong (plum extract, for umami and depth)
- 1.5 Tbsp soy sauce (adjust saltiness)
- 1 Tbsp sesame oil (for nutty aroma)
- 1/2 Tbsp minced garlic
- A pinch of sesame seeds (for texture and garnish)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, wash the fresh lettuce thoroughly under cold running water. It’s important to rinse it carefully to remove any dirt or debris from between the leaves. Gently shake off excess water. You can let it drain in a colander or pat it dry with paper towels.
Step 2
Peel the onion and slice it thinly into slivers. If the slices are too thick, the dressing won’t penetrate well, so aim for thin cuts. Tear the lettuce into bite-sized pieces (about 3-4 cm) with your hands, or chop them with a knife. If the leaves are large, cut them into 2-3 pieces. Avoid making them too small, as they might become mushy. Aim for a good, crisp texture.
Step 3
In a clean bowl, combine the prepared lettuce and sliced onion. Then, add all the dressing ingredients (gochugaru, sugar, maesilcheong, soy sauce, minced garlic, sesame oil) and pour them over the vegetables. Now it’s time to mix everything together!
Step 4
Gently toss the lettuce and dressing in the bowl with your hands. Be careful not to squeeze or mash the lettuce too hard, as this can make it taste grassy or soggy. The key is to lightly mix, as if you’re gently tumbling the ingredients with your fingertips. Toss just once or twice until the dressing evenly coats the lettuce and onion. This will result in a fresh and crisp lettuce salad. Finally, sprinkle with sesame seeds for extra flavor and visual appeal. Enjoy immediately for the best taste!
