Recipe Info

  • Category : Side dish
  • Ingredient Category : Vegetables
  • Occasion : Everyday
  • Cooking : Seasoned mix
  • Servings : 4 servings
  • Difficulty : Beginner

Ingredients

  • 1 bunch fresh spinach
  • 1 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 1/2 Tbsp sesame oil
  • 1/2 Tbsp coarse salt
  • 1 Tbsp minced garlic
  • A pinch of sesame seeds

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, trim the ends of the spinach, removing any wilted or damaged leaves and roots. Wash the spinach thoroughly under running water to remove any dirt or sand. Ensuring the spinach is clean is key to a delicious dish.

Step 1

Step 2

Bring a pot of water to a rolling boil. Once boiling, add the prepared spinach and blanch for just 30 seconds. Overcooking spinach can make it mushy and diminish its nutrients, so a quick blanch is essential to maintain its crisp texture.

Step 2

Step 3

Immediately after blanching, transfer the spinach to a bowl of cold water. This step helps to set the vibrant green color and preserves the crispness of the spinach. Gently swish the spinach in the cold water to cool it down completely.

Step 3

Step 4

Drain the spinach from the cold water and gently squeeze out excess moisture. It’s important to remove as much water as possible so the seasoning adheres well and the dish isn’t watery. Place the squeezed spinach in a mixing bowl and sprinkle with 1/2 Tbsp of coarse salt. Coarse salt adds a pleasant texture and deeper flavor.

Step 4

Step 5

Next, add 1 Tbsp of minced garlic. The pungent aroma of garlic will enhance the overall flavor of the seasoned spinach. Feel free to adjust the amount of garlic to your preference.

Step 5

Step 6

Then, add 1 Tbsp of soy sauce. You can use Korean soup soy sauce (guk-ganjang) for a deeper umami flavor or regular soy sauce (jin-ganjang) for a balanced taste. Adjust the amount based on your personal preference.

Step 6

Step 7

Finally, drizzle in 1/2 Tbsp of sesame oil. The nutty fragrance of sesame oil will elevate the dish. Gently toss and mix everything together with your hands until the spinach is evenly coated with all the seasonings. Be careful not to break the spinach while mixing.

Step 7

Step 8

You can serve the seasoned spinach right away, but for the flavors to meld beautifully, let it sit for about 10 minutes. This allows the coarse salt to dissolve properly and the seasonings to fully infuse into the spinach, resulting in a more harmonious taste.

Step 8

Step 9

To finish, transfer the seasoned spinach to a serving dish and sprinkle with a pinch of sesame seeds. Your delicious and nutritious seasoned spinach is ready to be enjoyed! It’s a perfect, healthy addition to any meal.
