Salsa Ingredients

  • 1/4 large onion, finely minced
  • 5 cherry tomatoes
  • 1 ripe avocado
  • 1 Korean chili pepper (Cheongyang)
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 0.5 Tbsp sugar
  • 1 Tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp minced garlic
  • Nachos, for serving

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare about 1/4 of a large onion. If your onion is quite large, you might use slightly less. Finely mince the onion. Be careful not to cry while chopping!

Step 1

Step 2

If you find raw onion too pungent, soak the minced onion in cold water for at least 10 minutes. This step will mellow out the sharp flavor, making the salsa much smoother to enjoy.

Step 2

Step 3

Next, take 5 cherry tomatoes. Remove their stems and dice them into pieces roughly the same size as the minced onion. Cutting them to a similar size ensures they blend well in the salsa.

Step 3

Step 4

For a touch of heat, prepare 1 Korean chili pepper (Cheongyang). Remove the seeds and mince it very finely, even smaller than the onion and tomatoes. Adjust the amount based on your spice preference.

Step 4

Step 5

Prepare 1 ripe avocado. Cut it in half, remove the pit, and carefully scoop out the flesh from the skin using a spoon. A ripe avocado should yield easily to this method.

Step 5

Step 6

Place the avocado flesh into a bowl. Using a fork, gently mash the avocado. It’s best to leave some small chunks for texture rather than mashing it into a completely smooth paste.

Step 6

Step 7

Now, add the diced cherry tomatoes and the well-drained minced onion to the mashed avocado in the bowl.

Step 7

Step 8

It’s time to season. Add 0.5 teaspoon of salt, 0.5 tablespoon of sugar, and 1 tablespoon of fresh lemon juice for a bright, zesty flavor. These ingredients are key to enhancing the fresh taste.

Step 8

Step 9

Finally, add 1 teaspoon of minced garlic for an aromatic touch. Mix everything together gently until well combined. Taste and adjust the seasoning, adding more salt or lemon juice if needed, according to your preference.

Step 9

Step 10

And there you have it – a fresh, creamy Avocado and Tomato Salsa! It’s incredibly delicious scooped up with crispy nachos. Highly recommended for a movie night snack or as a party appetizer!
