Ingredients
- 1 can of tuna (drained)
- 1 bowl of cooked rice
- 400ml of water
- 1/2 stalk of green onion
- 1/3 small onion
- 30g of carrot
- 4 Tbsp of sesame oil
- 1/4 tsp of salt (adjust to taste)
- A pinch of sesame seeds
- A pinch of dried seaweed flakes (gim)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, open the can of tuna and drain out all the oil. This step helps to keep the porridge from being too greasy and highlights the natural flavor of the tuna.
Step 2
Prepare the green onion by halving it lengthwise and then mincing it finely. Include both the white and green parts. The green onion will add a fragrant aroma to the porridge.
Step 3
Peel the carrot and then dice it into very small pieces. These tiny bits of carrot will add a lovely color and a pleasant texture to the dish.
Step 4
Peel and finely mince the onion. The natural sweetness of the onion will soften the overall flavor of the porridge.
Step 5
Heat 3 tablespoons of sesame oil in a pot or deep pan over medium-low heat. Add the minced green onion, carrot, and onion all at once. Sauté the vegetables until they become translucent and fragrant, about 3-5 minutes.
Step 6
Once the vegetables are tender, add the drained tuna to the pot. Add the remaining 1 tablespoon of sesame oil and stir-fry everything together. Gently break up the tuna as you stir-fry to ensure it mixes well with the vegetables without becoming mushy.
Step 7
After stir-frying the tuna and vegetables, pour in 400ml of water. Bring the mixture to a boil over high heat, then reduce the heat to medium.
Step 8
Add 1 bowl of cooked rice to the pot, along with 1/4 teaspoon of salt. Stir well to prevent the rice from clumping. Continue to simmer over medium-low heat for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the rice grains are soft and have started to break down, creating a porridge consistency. Make sure to stir frequently to prevent sticking at the bottom.
Step 9
Ladle the warm porridge into serving bowls. Garnish generously with sesame seeds and dried seaweed flakes. For an extra touch of flavor, you can drizzle a little more sesame oil on top. Enjoy this comforting and satisfying Tuna and Vegetable Porridge that will leave your stomach feeling happy and content!
