Make a Nutritious Italian Frittata with Plenty of Vegetables and Cheese for a Satisfying Meal.
Eggs are a staple in our kitchens, and if you’re looking for a delightful way to use them, I highly recommend the Italian classic, ‘Frittata’! Frittata is akin to a creamy steamed egg dish, made without water. Adding vibrant vegetables, flavorful sausage, crispy bacon, and rich mozzarella cheese transforms it into a wonderfully nutritious meal, perfect for any occasion. Its simple preparation makes it an ideal choice for breakfast or brunch. Let me guide you through creating this colorful and wholesome frittata!
Frittata Ingredients
- 1/3 carrot
- 1/2 onion
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/5 tsp black pepper
- 5 Tbsp milk
- 2 Tbsp cooking oil
- 4 Tbsp mozzarella cheese
- 2 pinches dried parsley
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the vegetables. Peel and dice the onion into 2x2cm cubes. Cut the bell pepper into similar-sized pieces.
Step 2
Wash and peel the carrot. Slice it thinly, about 0.3cm thick, while preserving its round shape. This thickness ensures a pleasant texture when cooked.
Step 3
Remove the stems from the cherry tomatoes, wash them thoroughly, and cut each one in half.
Step 4
Slice the sausage into rounds about 0.5cm thick. Cut the bacon into 2cm pieces. Having all your ingredients prepped will make the cooking process much smoother.
Step 5
In a large bowl, crack 5 fresh eggs. Add 5 tablespoons of milk, 1/4 teaspoon of salt, and 1/5 teaspoon of black pepper. Whisk everything together until well combined and smooth. A smoothly beaten egg mixture is key to a tender frittata.
Step 6
Heat 2 tablespoons of cooking oil in a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onion, bell pepper, and carrot. Sauté until the onion becomes translucent, which helps bring out the natural sweetness of the vegetables.
Step 7
Once the vegetables are softened, add the sliced sausage and bacon to the skillet. Continue to cook until the sausage and bacon are nicely browned and rendered, infusing the dish with their savory flavors.
Step 8
Pour the whisked egg mixture evenly over the sautéed vegetables and meats in the skillet. Be mindful of the heat to prevent the eggs from sticking to the bottom.
Step 9
Arrange the halved cherry tomatoes on top of the egg mixture, followed by a generous sprinkle of mozzarella cheese. The melting cheese will add a delicious richness.
Step 10
Cover the skillet with a lid and reduce the heat to very low. Let it cook gently for about 10-15 minutes, or until the center is fully set and cooked through. Cooking on low heat is crucial to ensure the frittata cooks evenly without burning the bottom.
Step 11
Once the frittata is firm and cooked, remove the lid. Sprinkle with a pinch of dried parsley for a final touch. Your vibrant and delicious vegetable frittata is ready to be enjoyed! Serve warm.
