Colorful Open Toast
How to Make Coffee Friends-Style Open Toast with an Air Fryer

Coffee Friends featured a variety of delicious toasts, and today we’re sharing the open toast! As soon as I saw it, I had to make it. This recipe makes a wonderful meal with simple ingredients. Let’s learn how to easily make this crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside open toast using an air fryer.
Ingredients- 2 slices of bread (slightly thicker bread recommended)
- 4 strips of bacon (adjust to your preference)
- Plenty of mozzarella cheese
- 1 egg
- A pinch of parsley flakes (for garnish)
- A little butter (optional)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
The ingredients are incredibly simple, but the taste is amazing! ‘Coffee Friends’ uses a special, slightly thick bread. If you can’t find it, you can stack two regular slices of bread to achieve a similar thickness. Lightly butter the sides that will be joined to help them stick together.

Step 2
Stack the two slices of bread and spread a thin layer of butter on the surface that will be facing upwards. This helps the bread become crispier and prevents it from getting soggy when you add the toppings.

Step 3
Using a cup or another round object, press down firmly in the center of the stacked bread to create an indentation. This well will hold the toppings and prevent them from spilling out. In ‘Coffee Friends’, they sometimes use a spoon to make the indentation.

Step 4
Arrange the bacon strips in an ‘X’ shape over the indentation you created on the bread. Feel free to adjust the placement and amount of bacon to your liking.

Step 5
Next, generously sprinkle mozzarella cheese over the bacon. The cheese will melt and bind the bacon and egg together. Carefully crack the egg into the center of the cheese.

Step 6
Pro Tip! The bacon used on ‘Coffee Friends’ seemed to have wider strips. If you’re using thinner bacon, you might want to overlap two strips for each part of the ‘X’, or cut two strips in half crosswise. Also, to prevent the egg white from spreading too much, you can use just the egg yolk or carefully drain some of the white before placing it on the toast for a neater result.

Step 7
‘Coffee Friends’ bakes this open toast in an oven for 10 minutes. However, using an air fryer is much quicker and just as effective! Preheat your air fryer to 180°C (350°F) and bake for about 8 minutes. Keep an eye on it to ensure the bread doesn’t burn.

Step 8
You’ll be pleasantly surprised when you open the air fryer! The open toast will look incredibly appetizing, with golden-brown bread, perfectly cooked bacon, melted cheese, and a beautifully set egg.

Step 9
This open toast is not only delicious but also visually appealing, resembling a blooming flower. The semi-runny egg yolk adds a wonderfully rich and creamy texture when you break into it. Enjoy making and devouring this delightful open toast!
