  • 2 Tbsp cooking oil

  • 2 packets mozzarella cheese (approx. 200g)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Let’s make some incredibly delicious sausage buns that are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, perfect for kids’ snacks! You can easily make them at home using your air fryer.

Step 2

If making bread dough from scratch seems daunting, try using a convenient store-bought hotteok mix. It allows you to create chewy and tasty buns without any complicated proving or steps.

Step 3

In a large bowl, combine the hotteok mix, yeast (if not already in the mix), 2 tablespoons of cooking oil, and gradually add lukewarm water. Mix everything together to form a dough. Adjust the water amount as needed based on the dough’s consistency.

Step 4

Once the dough comes together, transfer it to a clean surface and knead for at least 10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. Proper kneading is key to achieving a tender crumb. Place the kneaded dough back into the bowl, cover it with plastic wrap or a lid, and let it rise in a warm place for at least 30 minutes, or until it has doubled in size.

Step 5

While the dough is rising, prepare the filling. Finely dice the onion and drain any excess liquid from the corn salad. In a separate bowl, combine the diced onion, corn salad, mayonnaise, and a pinch of black pepper. Mix well. You can adjust the amount of mayonnaise according to your preference.

Step 6

After the dough has risen, gently punch it down to release the gas. Divide the dough into portions, one for each sausage. Flatten each portion into a disc, place a sausage in the center, and carefully wrap the dough around it, sealing the seams tightly to prevent the filling from escaping during baking.

Step 7

Using scissors, make cuts from the bottom of the wrapped sausage, about 2-3 cm apart, stopping before the top. Then, gently spread these cut strips outwards in a zig-zag pattern. This creates a beautiful design and makes it easier to add the toppings.

Step 8

Generously spoon the prepared onion and corn salad mixture onto the spread-out dough. Be sure to add a good amount, as the filling might settle slightly as it bakes.

Step 9

Drizzle ketchup over the filling in an appealing pattern. Finally, top generously with mozzarella cheese. The cheese will melt beautifully and add a wonderful richness.

Step 10

Preheat your air fryer to 175°C (350°F). Place the sausage buns inside and bake for 13-15 minutes. Keep an eye on them; you can adjust the time slightly based on your air fryer’s performance and the desired color. They cook evenly without needing to be flipped.

Step 11

And there you have it! Perfectly baked, golden-brown sausage buns, made simply at home. Enjoy them warm for the best crispy, chewy, and soft texture. They make for a delightful homemade treat!
