  • Category : Western food
  • Ingredient Category : Chicken
  • Occasion : Everyday
  • Cooking : Boil / Simmer
  • Servings : 1 serving
  • Cooking Time : Within 60 minutes
  • Difficulty : Beginner

Main Ingredients

  • 8 chicken wings (or 16 chicken drumettes)
  • 250ml Cola
  • 1 star anise (optional)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Lightly coat the bottom of your rice cooker pot with 1 tablespoon of cooking oil. This prevents the chicken wings from sticking.

Step 1

Step 2

Place the 8 washed chicken wings into the rice cooker. If you’re using chicken drumettes, you’ll need about 16 of them. Adjust the quantity based on the size of your chicken pieces.

Step 2

Step 3

Add 3 tablespoons of soy sauce and 1.5 tablespoons of minced garlic & ginger paste. Mix well to ensure the chicken wings are evenly coated with the marinade. If you don’t have pre-made paste, you can mince 4 cloves of garlic, about 1/4 tablespoon of grated ginger, and use 1/2 tablespoon of minced garlic as a substitute.

Step 3

Step 4

Select the ‘Steam’ or ‘Multi-cook’ function on your rice cooker and set it for 15 minutes. Once done, carefully drain off any excess liquid and oil that has accumulated at the bottom. If you used whole minced garlic, you can leave it in the pot.

Step 4

Step 5

Prepare 1 star anise. This spice adds a wonderful aroma, reminiscent of pho broth. If you’re not familiar with its scent or don’t have it, feel free to omit it without compromising the overall flavor too much.

Step 5

Step 6

Measure out 250ml of Cola. While a standard can is 300ml, we’re using slightly less to ensure the wings are glazed rather than fully submerged, allowing them to caramelize beautifully.

Step 6

Step 7

Add the star anise and 250ml of Cola to the rice cooker. Set the rice cooker to the ‘Quick Cook’ or ‘Rice’ function and cook for 24 minutes. This simmering process will make the wings tender and coat them in a delicious, sticky glaze.

Step 7

Step 8

Your delicious Cola Wings are ready!

Step 8

Step 9

Enjoy these flavorful wings while they’re warm! They are perfect as a side dish with rice or as a tasty appetizer with a cold drink. For an extra touch, you can sprinkle some sesame seeds on top before serving.
