Mild Clear Cod Soup (For Infants)

Clear and Refreshing Cod Soup (Baby-Friendly)

This is a dish I often make when I want my child to eat fish. With just a little more seasoning, adults can enjoy it too. This is a super simple recipe.

Recipe Info

  • Category : Soup / Broth
  • Ingredient Category : Seafood
  • Occasion : Everyday
  • Cooking : Boil / Simmer
  • Servings : 3 servings
  • Cooking Time : Within 10 minutes
  • Difficulty : Anyone

Main Ingredients

  • 1 Cod fillet
  • 1 handful Green onion (chopped)
  • 2 handfuls Radish (sliced thinly)
  • 2 leaves Napa cabbage (cut into bite-sized pieces)
  • 1 handful Mushrooms (e.g., shiitake, oyster; trimmed and sliced)
  • 650ml Water

Seasoning (Baby-Friendly or Adult Base)

  • 1/2 Tbsp Miso paste (less for baby)
  • 1/2 Tbsp Anchovy sauce or Korean soup soy sauce (optional, very little for baby)
  • 1/2 Tbsp Soy sauce (optional, very little for baby)
  • 1/2 tsp Minced garlic

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, lightly rinse the cod fillet under running water and pat it dry with paper towels. Cut the cod into bite-sized pieces suitable for your child. Slice the radish thinly or into 1cm cubes, and cut the cabbage into large pieces. Trim and slice your favorite mushrooms (like shiitake or oyster mushrooms). (If adults will also be eating, you can cut the cod and radish into slightly larger pieces.)

Step 1

Step 2

Heat 1 Tbsp of sesame oil in a pot or wok over medium heat. Add the sliced radish and sauté for about 3 minutes until it becomes slightly translucent. Pour in 550ml of water and bring it to a boil. Once boiling, add the cod fillet, prepared mushrooms, and cabbage. (If seasoning for a baby, dissolve 1/2 Tbsp of miso paste in the broth at this stage. For adults, you can add Korean soup soy sauce, anchovy sauce, or regular soy sauce for seasoning. Stir everything gently to combine.)

Step 2

Step 3

Once the soup comes to a boil, reduce the heat to medium-low. Skim off any foam that rises to the surface with a spoon; this will make the broth clearer and cleaner. Let it simmer for about 10 minutes, or until all the ingredients are tender. Finally, add the chopped green onions and simmer for another minute until done. This completes your refreshing and delicious clear cod soup! Let it cool slightly before serving to your child.
