Clear and Mild Tofu Stew with Pork for Babies
How to Make Mild Tofu Stew for Baby Food: Pork and Tofu Stew Recipe
I made a mild tofu stew for my baby after a while. This clear tofu stew is a dish I often make when babies start eating pork, and they always love it. With tender tofu, flavorful minced pork, and plenty of fresh vegetables simmered in a gentle broth, each spoonful is a comforting taste of home. It’s perfect for a nutritious and delicious meal that your little one will surely enjoy.
Main Ingredients
- 1 pack soft tofu
- 150g minced pork
- 1/2 onion (small)
- 1/2 green onion (white part mainly)
- 70g mushrooms (e.g., shiitake, oyster mushrooms, your preference)
Seasoning & Broth
- 600ml rice water (the milky water from rinsing rice)
- 1.5 Tbsp sesame oil or perilla oil
- 1 Tbsp minced garlic
- 1 Tbsp soy sauce for soup (use low-sodium if preferred for baby)
- A pinch of black pepper (optional, very small amount)
- 600ml rice water (the milky water from rinsing rice)
- 1.5 Tbsp sesame oil or perilla oil
- 1 Tbsp minced garlic
- 1 Tbsp soy sauce for soup (use low-sodium if preferred for baby)
- A pinch of black pepper (optional, very small amount)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, let’s prepare the vegetables. Peel and finely dice the onion. Slice the white part of the green onion thinly. Trim the stems of the mushrooms and cut them into bite-sized pieces. (Tip: You can add zucchini or carrots for extra vegetables; dice them similarly.)
Step 2
Gently open the tofu package or make a small slit at the top. Carefully scoop out the tofu directly into the pot or cut it into roughly 2-3 cm chunks. Avoid cutting it too small, as it might break apart during cooking.
Step 3
Now, let’s start cooking. Heat 1.5 Tbsp of sesame oil or perilla oil in a pot or deep pan over medium heat. Add the minced pork and stir to break it up. Sauté until the pork turns brown and is cooked through, about 2-3 minutes.
Step 4
Once the pork is browned, add the diced onion, sliced green onion, and mushrooms (plus any extra vegetables like zucchini or carrots). Stir-fry everything together for another 3-4 minutes until the vegetables soften slightly. This helps to bring out their natural sweetness.
Step 5
Pour in 600ml of the prepared rice water. Bring the stew to a boil over high heat, then reduce to medium-low. Let it simmer gently for about 5-7 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
Step 6
While the broth is simmering, season with 1 Tbsp of minced garlic and 1 Tbsp of soy sauce for soup. Remember to keep the seasoning mild for your baby. You can use low-sodium soy sauce or adjust the amount as needed. Add a tiny pinch of black pepper if desired.
Step 7
Finally, gently add the cut tofu pieces into the pot. Be careful not to stir too vigorously after adding the tofu. Once the stew returns to a gentle simmer, cook for another 2-3 minutes until the tofu is heated through and tender. Avoid overcooking the tofu, as it can become mushy. Your delicious and mild tofu stew is ready!
