Chicken Restaurant Style Cabbage Salad
Make a Crispy Cabbage Salad Just Like the Chicken Restaurants at Home!
Hello everyone! Today, we’re going to make a wonderfully crunchy and delicious cabbage salad that pairs perfectly with fried chicken! This salad tastes remarkably similar to the one you get at chicken restaurants. If you’re a frequent enjoyer of fried chicken, making a large batch of this to have on hand would be fantastic! Let’s create a delightful meal with fresh and healthy ingredients!
Salad Ingredients- Cabbage 50-100g (adjust quantity to your preference)
- Carrot 1/4
- Cucumber 1/2
- 1 handful of your favorite nuts
- 1 boiled egg (optional)
Delicious Dressing- Ketchup 1 Tbsp
- Mayonnaise 1 Tbsp (recommended for a creamy texture)
- Sugar 1/2 Tbsp (sweetness can be adjusted)
- Mustard 1 Tbsp (for enhanced flavor!)
- Pinch of black pepper (to taste)
- Pinch of salt (to adjust seasoning)
- Ketchup 1 Tbsp
- Mayonnaise 1 Tbsp (recommended for a creamy texture)
- Sugar 1/2 Tbsp (sweetness can be adjusted)
- Mustard 1 Tbsp (for enhanced flavor!)
- Pinch of black pepper (to taste)
- Pinch of salt (to adjust seasoning)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the cabbage for the salad. Wash the cabbage thoroughly, remove any tough outer leaves, and slice it as thinly as possible. Slicing it thinly helps maintain its crispiness. For a single serving, we recommend about 50-100g, but feel free to make as much as you’d like!
Step 2
Transfer all the sliced cabbage into a large, deep bowl. Using a large bowl makes it easier to mix the ingredients and prevents the vegetables from getting mashed.
Step 3
Julienne the carrot to a similar thickness as the cabbage. Carrots add vibrant color and a subtle sweetness, enhancing the overall flavor of the salad.
Step 4
Remove the seeds from the cucumber and julienne it thinly. If you don’t like cucumber or carrots, you can certainly omit them, but including them adds a delightful variety of flavors and textures! Using more ingredients makes it tastier!
Step 5
Now, it’s time to make the dressing. In a bowl, combine 1 Tbsp of ketchup, 1 Tbsp of mayonnaise, 1/2 Tbsp of sugar, and 1 Tbsp of mustard. (Tip: Mayonnaise adds creaminess, while mustard brings a tangy kick, elevating the salad’s taste. The flavor might vary slightly depending on the brand of mayonnaise or mustard you use, so we recommend using ones you’re familiar with.)
Step 6
After adding the dressing ingredients, use chopsticks or a whisk to mix everything evenly. Stir it as if you’re ‘tossing’ the ingredients to ensure a smooth, lump-free dressing. I’ve used half a tablespoon of sugar, but you can add more if you prefer a sweeter taste.
Step 7
This step is optional, but adding mustard will deepen the salad’s flavor and create a more complex taste. Specifically, adding a small amount of Dijon or whole grain mustard can offer a unique taste experience. (Tip: If you have whole grain mustard on hand, a little bit can add a more sophisticated flavor!)
Step 8
A boiled egg adds a wonderful creaminess and substance to the salad. While it can be omitted, the creamy yolk and soft white blend beautifully with the dressing, making it incredibly delicious. Peel the boiled egg and slice it into appropriate pieces. (Tip: The egg in the photo is a duck egg, but a regular chicken egg works perfectly. If you enjoy a slightly smoky flavor, try using a smoked egg!)
Step 9
Finally, sprinkle a handful of nuts for a nutty flavor and a satisfying crunch. Almonds, walnuts, sunflower seeds – any nuts will pair well. As you chew, the nuts release their rich, nutty aroma, further enhancing the salad’s appeal.
Step 10
Plate the prepared salad attractively, and your delicious cabbage salad is complete! You can now enjoy a fantastic chicken restaurant-style salad right at home. Pair it with your favorite fried chicken and savor the meal. We encourage you to give it a try and enjoy your delicious feast!
