Chewy Tteok-Gimmari (Rice Cake Rolls Wrapped in Seaweed): A Perfect Snack & Beer Companion!
Revive Leftover Rice Cakes! Super Easy Tteok-Gimmari Recipe
Transform hard rice cakes into wonderfully soft and chewy delights! This is an incredibly simple recipe for Tteok-Gimmari that’s crispy on the outside and delightfully chewy inside. It’s perfect as a special treat or a fantastic accompaniment to a cold beer. The savory flavor of the seasoned seaweed and the satisfying chewiness of the rice cake create a fantastic harmony.
Ingredients- 1 stick of soft gara-tteok (Korean cylinder-shaped rice cake, about 20-25 cm long)
- 1 packet of seasoned seaweed (Gimbap nori or small packs of seasoned laver work well)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare your star ingredients: soft gara-tteok and flavorful seasoned seaweed. If your rice cakes are hard, gently microwave them for about 20-30 seconds or blanch them in boiling water for 1 minute to make them pliable and easier to handle.
Step 2
Cut the prepared gara-tteok into pieces that match the size of your seaweed. Typically, cutting one sheet of seaweed into 2-3 portions is ideal. Avoid cutting them too thick, as this will make them easier to wrap with seaweed and provide a better eating texture.
Step 3
Now for the fun part! Carefully wrap each piece of cut rice cake with the seasoned seaweed. The seasoning from the seaweed will infuse into the tteok, adding a delicious flavor. Gently press the seaweed to help it adhere to the rice cake.
Step 4
Arrange your beautifully wrapped Tteok-Gimmari on a plate for serving. They are delicious immediately, but letting them cool slightly will help the seaweed stay crispier for longer. Enjoy this delightful snack!
