Main Ingredients
  • 4-5 sheets of flat fish cake (eomuk)
  • 200-300g Vienna sausages (2 types recommended)
  • 1 medium onion
  • 1 stalk of green onion (small size)

Seasonings & Aromatics
  • 2-3 Tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp minced garlic
  • 3 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp oyster sauce
  • 2-3 Tbsp corn syrup (adjust sweetness to taste)
  • A pinch of sesame oil
  • A pinch of sesame seeds

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, place the flat fish cakes and Vienna sausages in a large bowl. Pour boiling hot water over them until they are submerged, and let them sit for 2-3 minutes. This step helps to remove any residual oil or food additives from the fish cakes and sausages, ensuring a cleaner and tastier stir-fry.

Step 2

Wash and peel the onion, then slice it into relatively thick strips, about 0.5 cm thick. Slicing them a bit thicker will help maintain a pleasant texture when stir-fried, as very thin slices can become mushy.

Step 3

Finely chop the red chili pepper after removing the stem. Slice the green onion into bite-sized pieces. (For a small stalk of green onion) Use both the white and green parts of the green onion to add visual appeal and flavor.

Step 4

Drain the fish cakes and sausages that were soaked in hot water, gently pat them dry, and then cut them into bite-sized pieces (about 2-3 cm). Cutting the fish cakes lengthwise and the sausages diagonally will make them look more appealing.

Step 5

Now, let’s start stir-frying! Heat 2-3 tablespoons of olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and half of the sliced green onion (mainly the white parts) and stir-fry for about 30-40 seconds until fragrant. The aromatic flavor of the garlic and green onion will infuse into the oil, enhancing the overall taste of the dish.

Step 6

Add the sliced onion, cut fish cakes and Vienna sausages, chopped red chili pepper, and the remaining green onion (including the green parts) to the pan with the aromatics. Stir-fry lightly until all ingredients are combined.

Step 7

Pour in 3 tablespoons of soy sauce, 1 tablespoon of oyster sauce, and 2-3 tablespoons of corn syrup. Stir-fry quickly (‘hwiririk’) until the onions become translucent, indicating they are cooked. *Adjust the amount of corn syrup or sugar to your preference for sweetness. If you like it spicy, you can add a bit of Cheongyang chili pepper.

Step 8

Once all ingredients are deliciously stir-fried, turn off the heat immediately. Finally, drizzle in a bit of sesame oil and sprinkle with sesame seeds, then mix gently. Your delicious fish cake and Vienna sausage stir-fry is complete!

Step 9

A delightful side dish that everyone, young and old, will love is ready in a flash! Enjoy a wonderful meal by serving it over warm rice, or even as a simple snack with drinks.
