Tired of the same old tteokbokki? Try this Fen Mochi Tteokbokki for a uniquely chewy and satisfying experience! It offers a different level of flavor and a fun texture that will captivate your taste buds.
Tteokbokki Ingredients- 1 pack Fen Mochi (approx. 200-300g)
- 3 cups water (approx. 540ml) using a paper cup
- 2 Tbsp Gochujang (Korean chili paste)
- 1 Tbsp Gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
- 1 Tbsp Sugar
- 1 Tbsp Oligodang (corn syrup or rice syrup)
- 1 tsp Dasida (or other umami seasoning)
- 1 Tbsp Soy sauce (soup soy sauce)
- 1/2 Onion (thinly sliced)
- 1/2 Green onion (cut into large pieces)
- 3 sheets Fish cake (cut into bite-sized pieces)
- Fish cake balls (to taste)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare all the ingredients for the tteokbokki. Lightly rinse the Fen Mochi under running water. Thinly slice the onion and cut the green onion into large pieces. Cut the fish cakes into bite-sized pieces.
Step 2
Pour 3 cups of water (approx. 540ml) into a pot using a paper cup, and stir in 2 Tbsp of Gochujang. Ensure the Gochujang is well dissolved without clumps.
Step 3
Next, add 1 Tbsp of sugar to enhance the sweetness. Stir to evenly mix the sugar into the sauce.
Step 4
Add 1 Tbsp of Oligodang for shine and a smooth sweetness. Oligodang adds glossiness at the end, so add it at this stage.
Step 5
Now, add the star ingredients: Fen Mochi and fish cake. Also, add 1 tsp of Dasida (or another umami seasoning) for enhanced flavor. Add the fish cake balls at this time as well.
Step 6
Add the sliced onion and large pieces of green onion. Start boiling, stirring to combine the seasonings well. Once the sauce boils, add 1 Tbsp of soy sauce to deepen the flavor.
Step 7
Simmer the tteokbokki over medium heat until all ingredients are well blended. Continue simmering until the sauce thickens and the Fen Mochi becomes tender; this allows the flavors to develop deeply.
Step 8
Finally, add 1 Tbsp of Gochugaru for a spicy kick and mix well. Continue cooking until the sauce thickens to a desirable consistency, and your delicious Fen Mochi Tteokbokki will be complete!
Step 9
Separately, prepare the fish cake balls to enjoy as a special side. Pour enough cooking oil into a small pot, heat over medium heat, and fry the fish cake balls until golden brown.
Step 10
The fried fish cake balls can be enjoyed alongside the tteokbokki or as a separate snack. They are also a popular side menu item to offer with tteokbokki.
Step 11
Your chewy, spicy, and sweet Fen Mochi Tteokbokki is ready! Enjoy it immediately while warm to savor the chewy texture and rich sauce. It turned out really delicious!
