Main Ingredients- 2 Cuttlefish
- 15 Whole Garlic Cloves
Braising Sauce- 3 Tbsp Soy Sauce
- 1.5 Tbsp Honey
- 1 Tbsp Corn Syrup (or rice syrup)
- 0.5 Tbsp Sugar
- 200ml Water
- 3 Tbsp Soy Sauce
- 1.5 Tbsp Honey
- 1 Tbsp Corn Syrup (or rice syrup)
- 0.5 Tbsp Sugar
- 200ml Water
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Locate the hard, quill-like bone inside the cuttlefish, near where the head meets the body. Gently slide it out by pulling downwards. Discard the bone. This step makes the cuttlefish easier to handle and cook.
Step 2
On the inner side of the cuttlefish mantle, make cross-shaped (X) score marks. This helps the delicious soy sauce glaze penetrate deeply into the flesh, enhancing the flavor. You can remove the outer skin if you prefer, or leave it on.
Step 3
In a pot or deep pan, combine all the braising sauce ingredients: soy sauce, honey, corn syrup, sugar, and water. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat. Once boiling, add the prepared cuttlefish and whole garlic cloves. Reduce the heat to medium and let it simmer uncovered for about 10 minutes, allowing the cuttlefish to tenderize and absorb the flavors. Be mindful not to overcook, which can make the cuttlefish tough.
Step 4
While the cuttlefish is simmering, use a ladle to spoon the hot glaze over the cuttlefish and garlic. This ensures that the flavors are evenly distributed and coat every part of the cuttlefish. Flip the cuttlefish pieces occasionally to promote uniform cooking and glazing.
Step 5
Just before you’re ready to serve, turn off the heat. Drizzle with fragrant sesame oil and sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds for a final touch of aroma and texture. Your delicious Chewy Cuttlefish Braised in Soy Sauce is now ready to be enjoyed, especially with a bowl of hot rice!
