- 2 Tbsp vinegar
- 1/2 Tbsp minced garlic
- 1 tsp sesame oil (or to taste)
- 1 tsp toasted sesame seeds (or to taste)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
[Steamed Clams] First, thoroughly clean the clams. Then, soak them in cold water with a pinch of salt for at least an hour to purge any sand. Rinse them under running water, scrubbing gently. In a pot, bring plenty of water to a rolling boil. Add the cleaned clams and cover with a lid. Steam for about 5-7 minutes, or until the clams open. Once open, remove them from the pot. To easily open the shells, insert a spoon or chopstick between the shells and twist gently. Be careful, as the clams will be hot!
Step 2
In a bowl, combine the soy sauce, gochugaru, and mirin to make the seasoning sauce. Add the shucked clam meat to the prepared sauce and gently mix to coat. Finally, stir in the toasted sesame seeds and sesame oil for added flavor. Your delicious steamed clams are now ready! You can also add chopped green onions or red chili peppers for extra zest.
Step 3
[Clam Rice Bowl] Prepare the clam meat for the rice bowl. In a bowl, combine the clam meat, minced garlic, gochujang, vinegar, toasted sesame seeds, and sesame oil. Gently mix everything together until the clam meat is well coated. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed; you can add a tiny bit of soy sauce if it’s not salty enough.
Step 4
Place a bowl of warm rice and arrange the torn fresh lettuce attractively over the rice. Top generously with the seasoned clam mixture.
Step 5
Finally, sprinkle some whole sesame seeds over the top for an extra nutty aroma, making your clam rice bowl even more appetizing. For an added touch, you can also add shredded seaweed (gim).
