Ingredients

  • 1 pack quail eggs (approx. 20-30 eggs)

Sauce Ingredients

  • 1 cup soy sauce (200ml)
  • 1/2 cup sugar (100ml)
  • 1/2 Tbsp minced garlic
  • 1/2 cup water (100ml)
  • A pinch of sesame seeds

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

In a pot, combine 1 cup of soy sauce, 1/2 cup of sugar, 1/2 Tbsp of minced garlic, and 1/2 cup of water. Stir briefly to mix the ingredients well, then bring to a simmer over medium heat.

Step 2

Once the sauce starts to bubble around the edges, add the quail eggs. Continue to simmer over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally to ensure the quail eggs are evenly coated and absorb the flavors. The goal is to achieve a slightly chewy texture as they simmer.

Step 3

When the sauce has reduced by more than half and the quail eggs have a glossy sheen and a chewy texture, turn off the heat. The residual heat will continue to cook and thicken the sauce slightly, so it’s best to turn off the heat when it’s just a bit less reduced than you desire. Let it cool down for a bit to allow the flavors to meld.

Step 4

Transfer the slightly cooled quail egg dish to a serving container. Sprinkle with sesame seeds for a final touch of nutty aroma. Your delicious ‘Quail Egg Simmered in Soy Sauce’ is ready to be enjoyed with a bowl of warm rice!
