Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, wash the sweet potatoes thoroughly and peel them. Cut the peeled sweet potatoes into uniform pieces about 1 cm thick. Cutting them too thin might cause them to break, while cutting them too thick can prevent them from drying out evenly to a chewy consistency, so aim for consistent thickness. Line your air fryer basket with parchment paper and arrange the sliced sweet potatoes in a single layer, ensuring they don’t overlap too much. A second layer is okay, but avoid stacking too high, as this can lead to uneven cooking. Preheat your air fryer to 120°C (250°F) and cook for the first 25 minutes.

Step 1

Step 2

After the initial 25 minutes, carefully remove the air fryer basket and gently flip the sweet potato slices. Flipping them ensures that all sides cook and soften evenly. Once flipped, return the sweet potatoes to the air fryer and cook for an additional 20 minutes at 120°C (250°F). The key here is to allow some moisture to evaporate, creating a slightly dried exterior that contributes to the chewy texture.

Step 2

Step 3

Once the second cooking cycle is complete, it’s crucial to let the sweet potato chews cool down completely in a well-ventilated area at room temperature. This cooling process allows excess moisture to dissipate, transforming the texture into the wonderfully chewy and soft consistency that characterizes perfect sweet potato chews. Letting them cool also prevents them from sticking to your hands, making them much easier to handle and eat.

Step 3

Step 4

The finished chewy sweet potato chews are a perfect healthy snack for kids, offering natural sweetness from the sweet potatoes without any added ingredients. They are ideal for satisfying cravings between meals or as a delightful accompaniment to coffee or tea. Leftover sweet potato chews can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for several days. Enjoy a wonderful homemade snack time with your whole family!
