- 1 Tbsp water
- 1.5 Tbsp vinegar
- Sesame oil or perilla oil, to taste
- A pinch of sesame seeds
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, let’s make the delicious sauce for your jjolmyeon! In a large bowl, combine 1 Tbsp sugar, 1/2 Tbsp corn syrup, 1/3 Tbsp minced garlic, 1.5 Tbsp gochujang, 1 Tbsp water, and 1.5 Tbsp vinegar. Stir well until the sugar is completely dissolved. Making the sauce ahead of time allows the flavors to meld beautifully.
Step 2
Now it’s time to cook the jjolmyeon noodles. Bring a generous pot of water to a rolling boil. Once boiling, carefully add 1 portion of jjolmyeon noodles. To achieve that perfect chewy texture, boil for exactly 3 to 4 minutes. Be careful not to overcook, as they can become mushy if boiled too long.
Step 3
Immediately after boiling, rinse the jjolmyeon noodles thoroughly under cold running water. This step removes excess starch, making the noodles firmer and chewier. Drain them completely in a colander and then transfer them to your serving bowl.
Step 4
Prepare the fresh vegetables to add to your jjolmyeon. We have thinly shredded cabbage, 3-4 washed lettuce leaves, thinly julienned cucumber, and blanched bean sprouts. Feel free to add your favorite vegetables or omit any you don’t prefer.
Step 5
Arrange the prepared vegetables attractively over the noodles in the bowl. Spoon the delicious spicy-sweet sauce you made earlier right into the center. Add the halved hard-boiled egg and the halved cherry tomatoes for a pop of color and freshness (cherry tomatoes are optional but recommended).
Step 6
Finally, let’s add the finishing touches for maximum flavor! Drizzle a bit of sesame oil or fragrant perilla oil over everything, according to your preference. Sprinkle a pinch of sesame seeds on top. Now, use chopsticks or a spoon to toss everything together, mixing the noodles, vegetables, and sauce thoroughly. Ensure the sauce coats every strand of noodle for a perfectly balanced bite.
Step 7
Voila! Your mouthwatering, chewy, spicy, and sweet jjolmyeon is ready to be enjoyed. Serve immediately and savor the refreshing taste.
