Chewy and Savory Potato Dumplings (Gamja Ongsimi)
[Chungsikdang Rich Soy Milk] Make Savory and Chewy Potato Dumplings
The ultimate pairing of chewy potato dumplings and rich soy milk! Today, we’ll be making delicious Gamja Ongsimi using Chungsikdang Rich Soy Milk Black Bean. I used to make Gamja Ongsimi with clear broth, but the combination with soy milk was also amazing! If clear broth offers a clean taste, soy milk provides a nutty and deep flavor. If clear broth is just coffee, soy milk is the TOP! 😀
Ingredients for Potato Dumplings- Chungsikdang Rich Soy Milk Black Bean 800ml
- Potatoes 500g
- Zucchini 15 slices
- Carrot 10 slices
- Salt
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the vegetables. Thinly julienne the zucchini and carrot. This will ensure they cook evenly and complement the broth.
Step 2
Peel and wash the potatoes. Grate them finely using a grater. You can also use a food processor if available.
Step 3
Place the grated potatoes into a cheesecloth or fine-mesh sieve. Squeeze out as much liquid as possible by hand. This step is crucial for achieving a chewy texture in the dumplings.
Step 4
Let the liquid you squeezed from the potatoes settle in a bowl. Carefully discard the clear water from the top. The white starch sediment at the bottom is what you need. Mix this starch back into the squeezed potatoes. This helps the dumplings bind together and enhances their chewy texture.
Step 5
Season the potato mixture with a pinch of salt. Knead the dough well until it comes together, then form small, round dumplings (ongsimi). If the dough is too sticky, lightly wet your hands or coat them with a little oil.
Step 6
Now, let’s cook the dumplings. Pour the 800ml of Chungsikdang Rich Soy Milk Black Bean into a pot.
Step 7
Once the soy milk begins to boil, carefully add the prepared potato dumplings one by one. Gently separate them to prevent sticking.
Step 8
Season the broth with 1/2 teaspoon of salt. Taste and adjust as needed, as soy milk can already have some saltiness.
Step 9
Simmer the dumplings for about 7 minutes, stirring gently to prevent them from sticking to the bottom. Once the dumplings float and are cooked, add the julienned carrots and zucchini. Cook for another 2 minutes until the vegetables are tender. Your delicious and chewy Gamja Ongsimi is ready!
Step 10
Voilà! Your delicious soy milk Gamja Ongsimi is complete. Doesn’t it look appetizing? Enjoy it while it’s warm!
