Cherry Blossom Rolled Omelet
Visually Appealing Cherry Blossom Rolled Omelet [A beautiful omelet tastes even better! Cherry blossoms have bloomed in your omelet!]
This uniquely shaped rolled omelet is as fun to make as it is to eat. Today, I’ve made a cherry blossom-shaped rolled omelet. While the taste is similar to a regular rolled omelet, its appearance is anything but ordinary. Because of its charming look, it feels much more delicious. It’s perfect for a special occasion, a fun bento box addition, or just to brighten up your meal.
Ingredients- 4 large eggs
- 10 cm piece of traditional sausage (like bologna or luncheon meat)
- 2 chili peppers (red or green)
- 4 pinches of salt
- 2 pinches of black pepper
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, we’ll slice the traditional sausage thinly to create cherry blossom shapes. If you have a flower-shaped cookie cutter, that would be very helpful! Use it to cut out flower shapes from the sliced sausage. Set the flower shapes aside, and then dice the remaining sausage.
Step 2
Finely mince the remaining part of the sausage (after cutting out the flowers) and the two chili peppers. These minced ingredients will be added to the egg mixture for added flavor and texture. Keep them together for now.
Step 3
Now, let’s separate the eggs. We’ll divide the 4 eggs into two portions: one portion will consist of 4 egg yolks and 2 egg whites, and the second portion will be 2 egg whites. To achieve this, crack 2 eggs and separate their yolks from whites. Then, add 2 whole eggs to the yolks. This gives us our two distinct mixtures: (1) 4 yolks + 2 whole eggs, and (2) 2 whites.
Step 4
Season each separated egg mixture. Add 4 pinches of salt and 2 pinches of pepper to the mixture containing yolks and whole eggs. Season the pure egg white mixture with a pinch of salt and pepper as well. Adjust seasoning to your taste, but be mindful not to oversalt.
Step 5
Incorporate the minced ingredients into the egg mixtures. Add the finely chopped chili peppers to the egg whites for a fresh, slightly spicy kick and a vibrant green hue. Mix the minced sausage into the yolk mixture for a savory and satisfying texture. Stir well until evenly combined.
Step 6
Let’s start making the omelet base. Pour the yolk and sausage mixture into a lightly oiled pan heated over medium-low heat. Spread it thinly to form a rectangular base. As the egg begins to set, gently roll it up from one end, like making sushi. Cooking over medium-low heat is crucial to prevent burning and achieve a beautiful, even color.
Step 7
This is the final assembly stage for our beautiful cherry blossom omelet. (1) Carefully slide the rolled omelet made in step 5 to one side of the pan. (2) Arrange the pre-cut cherry blossom sausage shapes neatly in the empty space. (3) Gently pour the egg white and chili mixture over the sausage flowers and the existing omelet. Pour slowly to prevent the sausage shapes from moving. Once the egg white mixture is mostly set, carefully roll the original omelet over the sausage flowers and the new egg mixture, encasing the blossoms. This creates the stunning ‘blooming’ effect.
Step 8
While we eat rolled omelets often, making one with a unique shape like this can turn an ordinary meal into a delightful experience. I found great joy in creating this cherry blossom rolled omelet.
