Golden French Toast Ingredients

  • 2 slices thick-cut bread
  • 2 fresh eggs
  • 60ml milk
  • 1 slice cheddar cheese
  • 2 cubes butter (approx. 20-30g)
  • 1 Tbsp sugar
  • A pinch of powdered sugar for garnish

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

In a wide bowl, crack two fresh eggs. Pour in 60ml of milk. Whisk gently with a fork until the eggs and milk are well combined. This step is crucial for achieving a rich flavor without any eggy smell.

Step 1

Step 2

Take your thick-cut bread slices and fully immerse both sides in the egg mixture. Let them soak for about 30 seconds, allowing the bread to absorb the custard evenly. Be careful not to let the bread become too soggy, and ensure the edges are also well-coated.

Step 2

Step 3

Heat a non-stick pan over medium-low heat. Add one cube of butter and let it melt. Control the heat to prevent the butter from burning, and swirl the pan to coat the surface evenly. You’ll know it’s ready when you can smell the rich, buttery aroma.

Step 3

Step 4

Once the butter is melted and fragrant, carefully place the egg-soaked bread slices into the pan. Gently shake the pan to ensure the bread settles evenly.

Step 4

Step 5

Cook on medium-low heat for about 2-3 minutes per side, until golden brown and beautifully toasted. Once toasted, carefully remove the French toast from the pan and set aside on a plate.

Step 5

Step 6

Now, take the second slice of bread, soak it in the egg mixture again, and add another cube of butter to the same pan. Cook this slice over medium-low heat, turning to achieve a lovely golden-brown color on both sides. Watch closely to prevent burning.

Step 6

Step 7

When the second slice of bread is nearly cooked, place the slice of cheddar cheese on top of it. The residual heat from the pan will start to melt the cheese beautifully.

Step 7

Step 8

Carefully place the first cooked French toast slice on top of the cheese. Cook for about 1 minute more, just long enough for the cheese to melt slightly and become gooey. Keep the heat low to prevent the cheese from oozing out too much.

Step 8

Step 9

Transfer the assembled French toast to a cutting board. Neatly trim off the crusts for a more refined presentation, then slice it diagonally in half for easy handling and a classic look.

Step 9

Step 10

Arrange the sliced French toast on a serving plate. Sprinkle evenly with 1 tablespoon of sugar and a dusting of powdered sugar for a delightful finish. Enjoy your cheesy French toast while it’s warm for the best taste and texture!
