Enjoy Heartwarming Eomuk-tang with Cute Pikachu Shapes and Chewy Tteok
Make your radish adorable and delicious using cute cookie cutters you have at home! This recipe creates a visually appealing and flavorful fish cake soup that’s perfect for everyone.
Main Ingredients- Fish cakes (various types) as needed
- Tteokbokki rice cakes as needed
- 1 piece of radish
- 1/2 stalk of green onion
- 1 tsp of Cheongyang chili pepper (optional, for added spiciness)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Soak the tteokbokki rice cakes in plenty of water until they become soft and don’t stick together. While they soak, add 1 Tbsp soy sauce, a pinch of sugar, and a pinch of salt to the water. This will lightly season the rice cakes as they soften. They’ll become nicely pliable while you prepare the other ingredients.
Step 2
Slice the radish into approximately 0.5cm to 0.6cm thick pieces. Use your cute cookie cutters (like a Pikachu shape) to create fun shapes from the radish slices. Using various shapes will make your fish cake soup even more charming and visually appealing.
Step 3
In a pot, add plenty of water and 1-2 Tbsp of soy sauce (start with less and adjust later to your preference). Once the water comes to a boil, add the soaked tteokbokki rice cakes and the prepared fish cakes. Let them simmer together. The delicious flavors from the fish cakes will infuse into the broth.
Step 4
Once the fish cakes and rice cakes have cooked for a bit, add the sliced radish and continue to boil. The radish will become translucent as it absorbs the savory broth. If you like a bit of heat, add thinly sliced Cheongyang chili pepper at this stage. Finally, add the diagonally sliced green onion for a fresh aroma.
Step 5
When the soup is boiling and the radish turns transparent, reduce the heat slightly. Carefully remove the rice cakes, fish cakes, and radish from the pot and arrange them attractively in serving bowls. This step helps prevent the rice cakes and fish cakes from clumping together and maintains their shape.
Step 6
Finally, ladle the hot, delicious broth generously over the ingredients in the bowls. Artfully place the cute shaped radish pieces on top of the rice cakes and fish cakes. For an extra touch of flavor and presentation, you can lightly brush the radish shapes with soy sauce. Your delightful and visually appealing fish cake soup is now ready to be enjoyed! Serve immediately while it’s warm.
