Buttery Grilled Squid (with Dried Shredded Squid)
How to Make Deliciously Chewy Butter-Grilled Squid Using Dried Shredded Squid
Today, we’re recreating a movie theater favorite! I’ve made butter-grilled squid at home using dried shredded squid. It’s a simple yet incredibly satisfying snack.
Ingredients- 150g dried shredded squid (jinmicha)
- 30g butter (unsalted recommended)
- 1 Tbsp sugar
- 1/3 tsp salt
- 1 Tbsp peanut butter
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the dried shredded squid for our delicious buttery treat. Place 150g of jinmicha into a clean bowl. If the strands are too long for your liking, you can gently tear them into bite-sized pieces by hand for easier eating.
Step 2
Next, let’s create the flavorful sauce that will make this squid irresistible. Melt 30g of butter gently. In a separate small bowl, combine the melted butter with 1 tablespoon of sugar, 1/3 teaspoon of salt for seasoning, and 1 tablespoon of peanut butter for an extra nutty richness.
Step 3
Pour the prepared sauce mixture over the dried shredded squid in the bowl. Using chopsticks or a spatula, toss everything together gently until the squid is evenly coated with the sauce. Ensuring each strand is well-coated is key to achieving the best flavor.
Step 4
Now it’s time to grill! Line your air fryer basket with parchment paper and spread the sauced jinmicha in a single layer, making sure the pieces don’t overlap too much. Place it in a preheated air fryer set at 160°C (320°F) and cook for about 10 minutes. It’s a good idea to check halfway through to prevent burning.
Step 5
Once perfectly golden and slightly crispy, transfer the buttery grilled squid to a serving plate. For an extra touch of elegance and aroma, sprinkle a little dried parsley on top. Enjoy your homemade butter-grilled squid, just like you get at the movies!
