Main Ingredients

  • 2 bowls of warm cooked rice
  • 4 slices of ham
  • 2 fresh eggs
  • A pinch of salt
  • 14g unsalted butter (about 1 Tbsp)

All-Purpose Soy Sauce Seasoning

  • 1 Tbsp red pepper flakes (gochugaru)
  • 3 Tbsp brewed soy sauce (yangjo ganjang)
  • 3 Tbsp regular soy sauce (jin ganjang)
  • 1/4 tsp minced garlic
  • 0.5 tsp sesame oil
  • 4 pinches of sesame seeds, crushed
  • 1/2 tsp sugar
  • 1 stalk of green onion, finely chopped (optional, for added aroma)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, let’s prepare the ‘all-purpose soy sauce seasoning,’ the star of this bibimbap. In a small bowl, combine 1 Tbsp of red pepper flakes, 3 Tbsp of brewed soy sauce, 3 Tbsp of regular soy sauce, 1/4 tsp of minced garlic, 0.5 tsp of sesame oil, 4 generous pinches of crushed sesame seeds, and 1/2 tsp of sugar. Stir everything together thoroughly with a spoon until well combined. If you like, finely chopped green onion can be added here for an extra fragrant touch.

Step 1

Step 2

Now, let’s cook the eggs. Heat a frying pan over medium heat. Crack the 2 fresh eggs into the pan. While the eggs are cooking, sprinkle a tiny pinch of salt over them to enhance their flavor. You can cook them to your preferred level of doneness, whether you like a runny yolk (sunny-side up) or a fully cooked egg.

Step 2

Step 3

In the same pan, place the 4 slices of ham alongside the eggs. Make sure they have a little space so they don’t overlap, and pan-fry them until they are golden brown and slightly crispy on both sides. The ham will release some delicious fat that adds to the overall flavor.

Step 3

Step 4

Prepare two bowls of warm cooked rice. Place one bowl of rice in a serving bowl. Add about 7g of unsalted butter (roughly a generous chunk) on top of the rice. The heat from the rice will gently melt the butter, allowing it to infuse the grains with its creamy richness.

Step 4

Step 5

Here’s the final step to assemble your bibimbap! Arrange 2 slices of the pan-fried ham and 1 cooked egg on top of the rice. Now, simply add your prepared soy sauce seasoning to taste. Mix everything together, and you’ll have a wonderfully flavorful Butter Egg Soy Sauce Bibimbap, complete with a rich buttery aroma. It’s incredibly simple yet incredibly satisfying!
