Bullet Squid Boiled: A Fresh Delicacy

Fresh Bullet Squid from Dokdo Sarang for a Delicious Boiled Squid Dish

This boiled bullet squid dish offers a taste of pure freshness, perfect for special occasions or a simple, elegant meal at home. The bullet squid from ‘Dokdo Sarang,’ sourced from Ulleungdo Island, arrived incredibly fresh, reminiscent of seafood just brought ashore. This allowed us to fully appreciate the squid’s natural sweetness and satisfyingly chewy texture. My husband, recently elected as a provincial councilor, often comes home late, making it difficult to see him. However, I wanted to use this precious squid to create a delicious meal to share moments of joy with my family. Here’s a simple recipe for enjoying this fresh, pre-processed squid delivered right to your door.

Recipe Info

  • Category : Main dish
  • Ingredient Category : Seafood
  • Occasion : Bar food
  • Cooking : Blanched
  • Servings : More than 6 servings
  • Cooking Time : Within 15 minutes
  • Difficulty : Beginner

Main Ingredients
  • 5 Bullet Squids (choose fresh and firm ones)
  • 1 bunch of Garlic Chives (washed thoroughly)
  • Spicy Red Pepper Paste Dip (Gochujang-based, to taste)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

1. Preparing the Squid: If frozen, thaw completely under cold running water. Once thawed, place the squid in a colander to drain excess water thoroughly. Gently pull the tentacles away from the body to remove the innards. To prevent tearing, make 2-3 diagonal shallow cuts on the body with a knife; this helps the seasoning adhere better and creates a nice shape when cooked.

Step 2

2. Boiling the Squid: Bring a large pot of water to a rolling boil. Add the prepared squid and quickly boil for about 1-2 minutes, just until the color turns vibrant and the squid becomes firm. Be careful not to overcook, as it can become tough. Immediately rinse the boiled squid under cold water to stop the cooking process and cool it down, then drain again in a colander.

Step 3

3. Preparing Garlic Chives and Plating: Wash the garlic chives well. Briefly blanch them in boiling water for only 10-20 seconds to maintain their crispness. Drain the blanched chives, gently squeeze out any excess water, and arrange them on a serving plate. Cut the boiled squid into bite-sized pieces (or serve whole) and place them on top of the chives. Enjoy your delicious and fresh bullet squid boiled dish! Serve with the spicy red pepper paste dip as desired.
