Braised Ham and Potatoes: Make Your Favorite Side Dish!
Refrigerator Surprise! Delicious Braised Ham and Potatoes, a Perfect Rice Companion
Rummaging through the fridge, I found potatoes and ham! I debated whether to stir-fry or braise them, but decided on a delicious braised dish with plenty of ham. Let’s make a flavorful ham and potato braise that keeps the potatoes from falling apart!
Main Ingredients- 2 potatoes
- 350g ham
Seasoning Ingredients- 4 Tbsp soy sauce
- 2 Tbsp brown sugar (adjust to taste)
- Sesame seeds, for garnish
- 300ml water
- 4 Tbsp soy sauce
- 2 Tbsp brown sugar (adjust to taste)
- Sesame seeds, for garnish
- 300ml water
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, wash the potatoes thoroughly under running water. Then, use a vegetable peeler to cleanly remove the skins. Double-check that all the skins have been removed.
Step 2
Cut the peeled potatoes into bite-sized pieces. Rinse the cut potatoes under cold water to remove excess starch. This step is crucial to prevent the potatoes from breaking apart during braising and helps the sauce adhere better. Drain the washed potatoes in a colander.
Step 3
Heat a moderate amount of cooking oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the cut potatoes and stir-fry until they are lightly golden brown on the surface. Pre-frying the potatoes helps them maintain their shape and adds a nutty flavor.
Step 4
While the potatoes are frying, let’s prepare the braising liquid. In a pot, combine 300ml of water, 4 Tbsp of soy sauce, and 2 Tbsp of brown sugar. Stir well to combine. Add the pre-fried potatoes to the pot with the sauce and stir gently to coat them evenly. Bring the mixture to a boil over high heat. Once boiling, cover the pot and simmer. As the liquid begins to reduce, lower the heat to medium-low.
Step 5
When the liquid has reduced to a glaze that coats the potatoes and they look shiny, turn off the heat. Sprinkle a generous amount of sesame seeds over the top. Give it a final quick stir to ensure the sauce evenly coats the potatoes. Transfer the delicious braised ham and potatoes to a serving dish. Enjoy this wonderful side dish with your warm rice!
