Ingredients for Boiling Bamboo Shoots
- 300g frozen bamboo shoots
- Water (enough to cover bamboo shoots)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Do not thaw the frozen bamboo shoots! We’ll be using them directly. This method is the secret to making them extra tender.
Step 2
Fill a pot with enough water to completely submerge the bamboo shoots. Bring the water to a rolling boil over high heat.
Step 3
Once the water is boiling vigorously, add the frozen bamboo shoots directly into the pot. Cover and boil over medium heat for about 20 minutes until thoroughly cooked. This crucial step makes the frozen bamboo shoots wonderfully soft and tender.
Step 4
Allow the water the bamboo shoots were boiled in to cool down. As it cools, the bamboo shoots will become even more delicate and tender, perfect for side dishes or stir-fries.
Step 5
Prepare the boiled bamboo shoots according to your intended use. For a salad, slice the shoots into long, thin strips. For stews or soups, cut them into bite-sized cubes.
Step 6
Heat a wok or frying pan over medium heat. Add 1 Tbsp of cooking oil, then add the minced garlic and sauté until fragrant. Be careful not to burn the garlic.
Step 7
Add the julienned bamboo shoots to the wok and stir-fry them together. Once the bamboo shoots are slightly cooked, add 1/2 Tbsp of tuna extract and 1/2 tsp of seasoned salt. Continue to stir-fry until the seasonings are well incorporated. Adjust the salt to your preference.
Step 8
Finally, lightly crush the toasted sesame seeds between your palms before adding them to the dish. This enhances their nutty aroma and flavor, creating a delicious bamboo shoot salad!
