Ingredients- 1 slice of bread
- 1 thick stick sausage
- 1 slice of cheese
- 2 handfuls of mozzarella cheese (approx. 40-50g)
- 1 egg or quail egg
- Pinch of black pepper
- Pinch of dried parsley
- 1 toothpick
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the stick sausage. Depending on the length, cut the sausage into 3-4 segments. Then, using a knife, make fine, closely spaced scores about 0.5cm apart along the length. Be careful not to cut all the way through; this scoring will help the sausage blossom into a flower shape when cooked.
Step 2
Gently curl the scored sausage into a circular shape to create a flower. Use the toothpick to secure the shape so it doesn’t unravel. You can use a whole sausage or cut it in half lengthwise before shaping. For an even fuller flower, feel free to use two sausages.
Step 3
(Optional) If you have leftover mashed potato salad, spread a thin layer on the bread slice. This adds extra flavor and makes the toast more filling, but it’s perfectly delicious without it.
Step 4
Now, let’s assemble the toast. Place one slice of cheese on top of the bread. This slice will help hold the other ingredients together as it melts.
Step 5
Generously pile on the mozzarella cheese over the slice of cheese. Don’t be shy with the mozzarella; plenty of cheese is key for that wonderfully stretchy, melted goodness.
Step 6
Carefully place the prepared sausage flower on top of the abundant mozzarella cheese.
Step 7
Gently nestle the egg (or just the yolk if using a quail egg) right in the center of the sausage flower. The egg will cook and its runny yolk will add a rich, delicious element.
Step 8
Finally, sprinkle a pinch of black pepper and a dash of dried parsley over the toast for a touch of seasoning and visual appeal.
Step 9
Bake the assembled toast in an oven or air fryer preheated to 180°C (350°F) for about 12 to 15 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is fully melted and bubbly. Keep an eye on it to prevent burning.
Step 10
Carefully remove the toothpick once it’s nicely baked. Your blooming sausage flower toast is ready to be enjoyed! Savor the delicious, gooey cheese and the delightful flower shape.
