Hearty Mid-Stage Baby Food: Making Beef Cubes & Broth

Beef Cubes and Broth for Baby Food

The difference that adding broth makes to food is truly significant. When I was making baby food in cube form, I didn’t feel the need to make beef broth separately. However, as we moved into the mid-stage of baby food, the portion sizes increased, and I wanted to try making porridge-style meals. This led me to create beef broth. And, coincidentally, I also made beef cubes. It was a two-in-one process.

Main Ingredients

  • Beef Rump (lean cut) 600g
  • Onion 1/2
  • Green Onion (white part) 1/2 stalk
  • Radish 1/3
  • Shiitake Mushrooms 7
  • Water 4000ml

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, soak the beef rump in cold water for about 40 minutes to remove any blood. Removing the blood is crucial for a clean-tasting broth without any gamey odor. Peel and roughly chop the onion. Clean and prepare the white part of the green onion. Peel the radish and cut it into appropriate-sized pieces. Clean the shiitake mushrooms and remove their stems.

Step 1

Step 2

Place the beef from which the blood has been removed, along with the prepared onion, green onion, radish, and shiitake mushrooms, into a large pot. Pour in approximately 4000ml of fresh water, ensuring it covers the ingredients, and bring it to a boil over high heat. Make sure your pot is large enough to accommodate all the ingredients.

Step 2

Step 3

As the water comes to a boil, you’ll notice foam and impurities rising to the surface. Use a spoon or ladle to skim off this foam and impurities periodically. This step is essential for achieving a clear and clean broth.

Step 3

Step 4

After thoroughly skimming off the foam, reduce the heat to medium and let it simmer for another hour. Once the broth is ready, turn off the heat and allow the pot to cool slightly. Once it’s cooled down a bit, carefully remove the cooked beef and vegetables, and set them aside to drain.

Step 4

Step 5

Now, take the cooked beef, let it cool down slightly, and then place it in a blender. Blend it until it becomes a fine paste. Ensure it’s ground to a smooth consistency that’s suitable for your baby. Portion the ground beef into baby food cube trays and freeze them for convenient use later.

Step 5

Step 6

Finally, strain the broth through a fine-mesh sieve multiple times to ensure it’s perfectly clear. Once cooled, divide the broth into single-serving portions and store them in freezer bags or ice cube trays. This homemade beef broth and cubes will be incredibly useful for adding flavor and nutrition to your baby’s meals.
