Baby’s First Rice Cereal (Mi-eum)
Early Stage Baby Food: Making Rice Cereal
The early stage of baby food is all about spoon adaptation, so we prepare it in very small quantities. Try this simple rice cereal recipe for a convenient and delicious start to your baby’s first solid foods!
Basic Ingredients- 1 Tbsp cooked white rice
- 10 Tbsp water
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, wash the rice thoroughly. Combine the washed rice and water in a 1:1 ratio and cook it in a rice cooker. (You can cook it together with the family’s meal.)
Step 2
In a pot dedicated for baby food, add 1 tablespoon of cooked rice and 10 tablespoons of water. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Be careful not to let it burn when starting on high heat.
Step 3
The starch from the rice will start to thicken the mixture, and once the water is at a rolling boil, immediately reduce the heat and simmer for about 1-2 more minutes before turning off the heat. Let it cool slightly.
Step 4
Once the rice cereal in the pot has cooled down a bit, transfer it to a blender. Blend until it is very smooth, ensuring there are no lumps for your baby’s easy digestion.
Step 5
Portion the smoothly blended rice cereal into baby food silicone cubes, about 20ml per cube. Cover and store in the freezer for long-lasting freshness.
Step 6
When it’s time to feed your baby the next day, take out one frozen rice cereal cube.
Step 7
Place the cube in a baby food container and warm it in the microwave for about 10 to 20 seconds. Avoid overheating, as it can become too hot, so heat it for a short duration.
Step 8
After microwaving, check the temperature to ensure it’s suitable for your baby. Serve gently spoonful by spoonful. Enjoy feeding your baby their first delicious meal!
