Nutrient-Rich Black Rice and Chicken Breast Baby Food
This is a nutrient-packed black rice and chicken breast baby food. Black rice is far superior in nutritional value to white rice and is also effective for constipation. Combined with protein-rich chicken breast and vitamin-packed carrots, this baby food is incredibly nourishing for your little one. While black rice has a unique chewy texture that pops, we’ve added glutinous rice flour to make it easier to digest and smoother for babies. This recipe is great for the early stages of introducing solids and can even help improve picky eating habits.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup black rice (soaked)
- 50g chicken breast (finely minced)
- 20g carrot (finely minced)
- 2 Tbsp glutinous rice flour
- 400ml water
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Prepare the black rice: Rinse the black rice thoroughly and soak it in water overnight (at least 8 hours is recommended). Soaking makes the rice softer and easier to digest.
Step 2
Cook the soaked black rice (Time-saving tip): Place the soaked black rice in a pot with enough water to cover it and bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Once boiling, reduce heat to medium-low and simmer for 10-15 minutes, or until the black rice is tender. Microwave option: In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the soaked black rice and enough water to cover it. Cover with plastic wrap and poke a few holes. Microwave on high (700W) for 4 minutes. Tip: Cooking in 2-minute intervals helps ensure even cooking and prevents burning.
Step 3
Prepare the other ingredients: While the black rice is cooking, finely mince the chicken breast and carrot into small, pea-sized pieces (about 0.5cm). This size is ideal for babies to chew easily.
Step 4
Combine and cook all ingredients: Add the cooked black rice and 400ml of water to a pot and bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Tip: Using pre-warmed water can help shorten the cooking time.
Step 5
Add chicken breast and simmer: Once the water has reduced by about half, add the minced chicken breast. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for another 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally. The liquid will thicken slightly as the chicken cooks.
Step 6
Add carrot and continue cooking: After the chicken breast is partially cooked, add the minced carrot and continue to simmer for 3-5 more minutes, or until the carrot is tender. Stir frequently to prevent sticking.
Step 7
Thicken with glutinous rice flour: Once all ingredients are tender, whisk in the glutinous rice flour (2 Tbsp). Stir constantly over low heat for 2-3 minutes until the baby food reaches your desired consistency. If it becomes too thick, you can add a little more water.
Step 8
Done! Your nourishing black rice and chicken breast baby food is ready! Let it cool before serving to your baby. Any leftover baby food can be portioned and stored in the freezer for convenience.
