(Measurements: 1 Tbsp=15ml, 1 tsp=5ml) We’ve made an acorn jelly salad for babies, enhanced with refreshing cucumbers for a crisp texture. The plum syrup adds a lovely tanginess, and it’s seasoned mildly for a delightful taste. While cucumber and carrot are optional, adding them significantly boosts both texture and flavor. 🙂

  • Cucumber 20g
  • Carrot 12g

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, cut the acorn jelly into bite-sized pieces, about 1.5 cm thick. Blanching them in boiling water for 2-3 minutes makes them softer and easier for babies to eat.

Step 2

Drain the blanched acorn jelly thoroughly using a sieve. Let it cool slightly until the steam dissipates; this helps the jelly absorb the seasoning better and prevents it from breaking apart.

Step 3

For the cucumber, use a peeler to remove the bumpy parts, then wash it thoroughly. Slice it thinly into matchsticks (julienne) – about 0.3 cm thick – which is perfect for little mouths to chew.

Step 4

Peel and wash the carrot clean, then slice it thinly into matchsticks, similar to the cucumber. Cut the julienned carrot into lengths of about 1 to 1.5 cm. This size is easy for babies to handle.

Step 5

Once the acorn jelly has cooled down a bit, re-cut it into bite-sized pieces (approximately 1.5cm x 1.5cm) that are easy for your baby to eat. Be careful not to cut them too small, as they might become mushy.

Step 6

For the garnish, grind the roasted sesame seeds in a mortar or grinder until finely powdered to make sesame powder. Using whole sesame seeds can be difficult for babies to chew.

Step 7

In a large bowl, combine the sliced cucumber, carrot, and the cut acorn jelly.

Step 8

Add 1.5 teaspoons of baby-friendly soy sauce to season. This type of soy sauce has lower salt content, making it a safe choice for babies.

Step 9

Stir in 2 teaspoons of plum syrup for a touch of sweetness and tanginess. This enhances the flavor and makes the dish more appealing to children.

Step 10

Add 1 teaspoon of perilla oil for a nutty aroma and flavor. Perilla oil has a low smoke point, so it’s best added directly to the salad rather than being used for high-heat cooking.

Step 11

Finally, add 0.5 teaspoon of oligosaccharide for a mild sweetness. It’s a good alternative to sugar, providing a smooth sweetness without stickiness.

Step 12

Crumble the seasoned seaweed snack into small pieces and add them to the bowl. Sprinkle generously with the prepared sesame powder.

Step 13

Using a spatula or spoon, gently mix everything together, being careful not to break the jelly. Mix lightly until all the ingredients are well coated with the seasoning. Your delicious baby acorn jelly salad is ready!

Step 14

This soft and savory acorn jelly salad is perfect for babies who don’t enjoy spicy flavors! It makes a wonderful snack or a hearty side dish to serve with rice. Enjoy making and sharing this delightful meal with your little one!
