Taco Ingredients

  • 400g ground beef
  • 2 tomatoes (small)
  • 1 onion (medium)
  • 1 avocado
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 12 hard taco shells
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • Fresh cilantro (to taste)
  • Hot sauce (optional)
  • Sour cream (optional)

Taco Seasoning

  • 2 Tbsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 Tbsp cumin
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper (adjust for heat)
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp coriander powder

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Begin by preparing your fresh taco toppings. Dice the tomatoes into roughly 1cm cubes. Finely dice the onion. Cut the avocado in half, remove the pit, peel, and then dice it into 1cm pieces or slices. Wash and thoroughly dry the lettuce, then shred it thinly. Gently wash the fresh cilantro leaves.

Step 2

Now, let’s cook the star of your tacos: the seasoned ground beef. Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until it’s browned and no longer pink. Drain off any excess grease. Add all the taco seasoning ingredients (chili powder, paprika, cumin, cayenne pepper, salt, and coriander powder) to the skillet with the beef. Stir well to coat the meat evenly. Continue to cook and stir for about 5-7 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld and any excess moisture to evaporate. You want the beef to be moist but not watery.

Step 3

With all your components ready, it’s time to assemble your delicious tacos! Briefly warm the hard taco shells – you can do this in a preheated oven or a dry skillet for a few minutes until they’re slightly warmed and crispier. Be careful not to overheat them, as they can become brittle. Carefully spoon the seasoned ground beef mixture into each taco shell. Next, layer your fresh toppings: add the diced tomatoes, onions, avocado slices, shredded lettuce, and a sprinkle of fresh cilantro. Finally, top generously with shredded cheddar cheese. For an extra flavor boost, drizzle with your favorite hot sauce or a dollop of sour cream. Your amazing homemade ground beef tacos are now ready to be enjoyed!
