  • 2 Tbsp Soy Sauce
  • 1 Tbsp Flour
  • 1 tsp Sugar
  • Pinch of Black Pepper

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Hello everyone! Today, we’re going to make some wonderful homemade Tteokgalbi, which is perfect not just as a side dish for rice, but also as an impressive dish for special occasions and when hosting guests. Homemade Tteokgalbi is not only delicious but also made with care, making it even more special.

Step 1

Step 2

First, to 600g of ground beef, add one medium-sized onion, finely julienned. I prefer to minimize the amount of flour to bring out the natural flavor of the beef and to make sure the onion is thinly sliced rather than pureed. While sometimes the sliced onion might feel like it’s separating from the meat, it adds a pleasant, slightly crisp texture when you bite into it, which I find quite appealing.

Step 2

Step 3

The ingredients you’ll need for today’s Tteokgalbi are: 600g ground beef, 1 medium-sized onion, 2 tablespoons of soy sauce, 1 tablespoon of flour, 1 teaspoon of sugar, and a pinch of black pepper.

Step 3

Step 4

Add 1 tablespoon of flour to help the seasonings bind well with the meat and create a cohesive texture. Flour acts as a binder for the meat and onion. After adding all ingredients, knead the mixture thoroughly with your hands until it becomes sticky and well-combined. This kneading process is the secret to making your Tteokgalbi extra tender and delicious.

Step 4

Step 5

Take portions of the mixture and flatten them into thin, round patties using your palms. It’s best to make them into a size and thickness that will cook easily, not too thick.

Step 5

Step 6

Heat a lightly oiled pan over medium-low heat. Place the formed Tteokgalbi patties in the pan and cook until golden brown on both sides. Cooking slowly over medium-low heat ensures that the inside cooks through evenly while keeping the juices locked in, resulting in a moist and flavorful dish.

Step 6

Step 7

Voila! Your delicious homemade Tteokgalbi is ready. Served over warm rice, it becomes a fantastic rice thief, and it makes an elegant dish for when you have guests over. Enjoy your meal!
