Aronia Berry Compote: Sweetness Replaces Tartness
Transform tart aronia berries into a delightfully sweet compote!
Don’t let the tartness of aronia berries stop you from enjoying them! This recipe turns them into a delicious compote. Perfect as a topping for yogurt or spread on toast.
Compote Ingredients- 250g Aronia berries
- 90g Sugar (granulated or unrefined)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Gently separate the aronia berries from their stems and any attached pulp. This step ensures you’re working with just the berries.
Step 2
Rinse the separated aronia berries thoroughly under cold running water to remove any dust or debris. Rinsing with cold water can also help reduce their tartness.
Step 3
Drain the washed aronia berries well using a colander. Removing excess water is important to achieve a good compote consistency.
Step 4
Place the well-drained aronia berries into a mixing bowl.
Step 5
Add the sugar to the bowl with the aronia berries. Gently toss them together until the berries are coated. Let this mixture sit for about 10 minutes to allow the sugar to start drawing out the juices from the berries and begin softening their tartness.
Step 6
Transfer the aronia and sugar mixture, along with any accumulated juices, into a saucepan.
Step 7
Cook over low heat for approximately 10 minutes, stirring gently with a spatula to avoid crushing the berries. The sugar will dissolve, creating a syrupy consistency. Continue cooking until the compote reaches your desired thickness.
